Good for iPod Add-on Adaptor,
By Duke (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sony XA120IP iPOD Connector (Electronics)
Seem like Sony has fixed most of the problems and bugs on the previous XA-110IP. I added this XA-120IP to my Sony CDX-F5700 radio and it works perfectly. I do not see any problems that reported on the XA-110IP. It keeps track and resumes to the last song when you turn power off/on. It also charges the ipod battery while it playing the music.
Only inconvenience thing I found is once plugged-in, the iPod screen will be disable and the radio display only one line of text. It's difficult to search through the album and playlist with only one line of text on the radio screen, unless you remember with what on your iPod. I tried to plug-in the iPhone but it didn't work. However, it charged the iPhone battery. Overall, I'm happy with it (for the price and the new features added to my old system). Only recommend for add-on to the existing radio. If you are looking to buy a new radio, you should buy an ipod ready radio (something like CDX-GT820IP) instead this adapter.

The Sony XA120IP iPod connector works great! Music sounds sweet, songs and playlists are displayed right on your Sony radio and you can use your remote control to switch songs. It also charges the 1st generation iPods. I have a 2nd generation iPod Nano and it doesn't support charging, but still works beautifully. To install, simply plug it in to the back of your existing Sony radio. The unit comes with the RCA cables, BUS Input cable and iPod connector. If your radio input is not being used, there's no need to purchase anything else, otherwise you will need to purchase the Sony input selector adapter.

The setup was quick and easy. For most parts the device works pretty well, however i noticed that you turn off your radio by turning off the ignition switch it does not remember it's last position and it get's confused. The way I worked around this is to switch to radio before I turn off the ignition. This allows the device to save the currently played song and position.

This is a great iPod connector. It was easy to install. The wiring was a little too long for my application, but the excess was hidden in the dash. I like how I'm able to control my iPod from the stereo faceplate. It is overall a great product.

The Sony XA120IP iPod connector is definitely better than the old model XA-110IP. Unlike the previous model, the XA120IP resumes songs from when the car last stopped and does not freeze up the ipod randomly. It plays songs perfectly from my ipod nano. However, for a dedicated "ipod adapter" there are critical features missing in my opinion to merit the purchase of this accessory.
PROS: * Automatically resumes songs from car on/off * Sound clarity great * Easy Installation CONS: * Unclear/misleading specifications on full compatiablity of ipod models (see below) * Does not recharge 4th generation ipod nano, and possibily other newer models. * Does not recharge 2nd gneration ipod nano (according to other reviewer) * Does not recharge iphones * No control through Ipod itself (minor) I purchased this on amazon for less than $35. I wouldn't pay more than the thirty-five dollars for this. Although it plays music through the ipod, and is decent enough controls through the radio head unit, the inability to charge newer ipod models is a major pitfall of this product.

Not for use with iPhone,

I bought this for a 1 wire hookup to my iPhone. The first thing that I noticed after installing was that it alerted me that charging of the iPhone was not supported through the attached accessory. After clicking ok, I received a message stating that this accessory is not designed for use with the iPhone, would you like to turn on airplane mode to eliminate possible interference. I chose no, and I am happy to report, their is no interference produced by this product, nor the Sony head unit.
The deal-breaker for me was when I noticed that the bluetooth functionality of the head unit was disabled. I tried during other source modes, including tuner mode. So I called Sony support, and after a few minutes on the phone, Sony support's solution was to just disconnect the iPod interface from the head unit so bluetooth functionality would return. This is a deal-breaker for me. If you have an iPod Nano or Classic this interface works great, but it is clearly not designed for the iPhone, or possibly the iPod touch. I gave it 3 stars because I was under the impression that it would allow me to keep ALL functionality of the head unit, and allow me to connect an iPod using the interface.

I love having the direct ipod connection, but there are a few issues with this product:
1. While it will play the iphone, it will not charge it. I know this is apple's fault also.. but they should include an adapter to make it work. Iphone is extremely popular, it should work with this. 2. The cable for the iphone is connected directly to the box. If you want to place connecter in the glovebox, you either have to put the box in the glovebox or drill a massive hole to get the head connector through. If it was separate, you would only have to drill a small hole.

I have an iPhone that will soon be decommissioned to iPod duty so in preparation I bought this adapter. For $20 it works great if you already have a compatible head unit. If not just go for a head unit with built in iPod support. Install was easy. I mounted the control box to the back of my glove box, the cabling is long enough to go anywhere you may want to go (center console or glove box).
I had read the mixed reviews, some say the iPhone worked some didn't. Well in my case my iPhone 3G did not work. The adapter neither charged nor controlled my iPhone. I was expecting it not to charge so I picked up the Scorsche Passport Charging adapter Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod touch 2G, 3G; iPod nano 4G; iPhone 3G (Black) and this fixed the issue. It started charging no problem. My next issue is that the head unit recognized that an iPod was plugged in and the iPhone knew it was plugged into a device (iPod controls are locked on the phone to be controlled by head unit) but I could not get the music to start. Head unit stayed on the default screen. I tried it with my girlfriends iPOd nano 5G and it started the music right up. *side note didn't charge the Nano 5G I had to use the Scorche Passport for it to charge but then worked great.

it works perfectly. yes once you plug it in you can not control your ipod except if you use the deck. but thats fine in most cases you just unplug it and select your song or playlist and plug it back in. there have been reports of it not working with iphones. But in fact it works wonderfully, i use my iphone on it in our boAT every summer. it does give a warning saying "not made for iphone" but you just continue through it and it works great!
