Sony XL-5100 Replacement Lamp - Projection TV Lamp

When I saw the price of $125, I thought it was too good to be true since most other places were selling the COMPLETE lamp assembly for around $40-$50 more. Well, it was. This Vendor (Vann's) displays a picture of the whole replacement lamp assembly (which is the normal part as per Sony), but they ship you ONLY the LAMP with no housing and no instructions and its not even a Sony lamp, some Osram P22H bulb you can buy online for less then $100. In addition, the box they ship it in has no protection whatsoever except for a little cardboard. I was planning to return this until I realized they charge a 20% restocking fee which was never disclosed in the listing for the product. Also, to install just the lamp requires ALOT of time and work to dissassemble the housing. NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!

I'm not sure about this product, especially its source. I purchased this lamp and less than 30 days later, it failed. The vendor said he would ship out a replacement immediately even though his policy was to wait for the item to be returned to be checked out. I sent the item that very day and he got it less than two days later. Here it is five days after his promise and I still haven't rec'd my replacement. Is my shipping capability better than his? We're an old retired couple and that lamp means that we can't use our TV set until we get that lamp.

Ordered this replacement bulb and it arrived quickly and was exactly as described. The complete unit (bulb and housing) was exactly what I was looking for and it was manufactured by Phillips. No issues with the ordering and it was at a great price.

My SXRD 50" was losing its color intensity and the lamp failed one evening. Replacement was a snap and now the TV looks like it did when it was new. If I had known a new lamp would have solved my problem, I would have gotten one earlier. Decent price too compared to what I was told at the time I bought the TV four years ago.

This order of lamp came on time, well packed and worked excellently. It is like original Sony when it was new. I am thinking of ordering another one for replacement that would be 2 or 3 years ahead. No image was shown but took a chance but it sure did work out.

Just as friendly recommendation to not buy from this vendor. Before I order this item, I read the reviews on Amazon and they were a mixed bag of good and bad. I decided to give it a chance because it was cheaper. But, now I do regret because it was very bad product and more importantly very bad experience all together. When I received the lamp and put it to work, the image was simply terrible, not nearly close to my original lamp or even to my previous replacement lamp. I wrote and called the vendor and he promised to send me the labels to return the product for an exchange. I am still waiting for those labels after 3 weeks and i lost hope to see them coming. This vendor is lacking the basics of a good customer service and simply not honoring his promises.

In order for you to avoid similar frustrating experience and waiste your money, I recommend not buying this product from him.

Purchased this replacement bulb from Storefront on Amazon.com and it has lasted less than 90 days...bulb has blown. I had purchased this in the past directly from Sony and it last 2 years. Seller states there is a one year warranty on the item, but of course refuses to answer my email request to exchange...beware of purchasing this item from anyone other than a Sony dealer.

This item is OK, but i do not think it is as bright as the original Philips lamp was.

I purchased this lamp in August of 2010. Within a month the red blinking warning light began flashing on the TV. The lamp finally failed on 12/5. The original lamp lasted since 2005. I suppose many factors can effect the life of a projection TV lamp, however my usage habits are the same, work 7am - 6pm, watch TV perhaps six hours during the week, and NFL on Sunday. I am inclined to believe this lamp was a third party replacement part of lessor quality. I can not recommend this lamp.

This product worked out very well - easy to install (2 minutes). The only concern was whether or not it was the problem. It would be great to have fault finding information available to say what the symptoms are that would cause someone to need this as a solution. Before investing in an expensive part I would like to have had more assurance that this was an appropriate fix.
