it's not like the picture,

I just received my new XL-5200 in the mail and thought this purchase was to easy. The shipping was quick and the price was half of what everyone else was charges. I opened the box and found out why, it's just the bulb folks. There is no housing as it appears in the picture. I can change the bulb myself however if you're not into electronic stuff than beware, this is false advertising at its best. I re-read the ad and seen no mention that the housing was not included. Thanks for the rip-off

For the Sony Grand Wega,

I have a Grand Wega TV with about 1 Billion hours on it, well not really but it has survived very well through 2 births and up to toddler years. The TV has taken some serious abuse.
This is a replacement lamp for your rear projection LCD Television. If your led on the front goes red then it means its time for this replacement. I have no idea the number of hours I have on the original but I expect that the TV was used every day 10 hours plus for over 4 years. It has never skipped a beat. Yes this is NOT the cheapest part to replace but it is significantly less than a new Grand Vega television. Depending on the model you have, replacement is VERY easy, just open the hatch, pull out the old one and pop in the new one. Keep your fingers AWAY from the front glass. As long as your careful this can be done by you. Thank you for reading my review.

NOT same as pictured...,
By Gustav Andersson "BULB-buyer" (Sweden) - See all my reviews It is probably possible to replace the bulb into the old casing, but I am not comfortable with doing this as I have no experience in how to do it and no way of getting any instructions how to. Update your pictures and info, please!

When I first got this, I was upset, but it was because I made a poor assumption that is not necessarily supported by the product description. I think I jumped to conclusions just from the fact that I know the official xl-5200 sony uses is the phillips brand one, and there are several different listings for this same lamp on amazon- some show the phillips brand in the picture, others don't. I thought I had ordered the phillips one, but the product title/picture here doesn't actually say that. It does call it a Sony xl-5200 though, which doesn't exist if they mean sony manufactured, and is untrue if they mean Sony OEM since that would be the phillips. The product description in the body does also say "Sony's xl-5200 replacement" which it really isn't...it's meant to replace the sony, but this product isn't sony's or phillips'.
I have to take some points away for the misleading description (although this might be a case where there's only one description and some sellers actually sell the real deal while others sell generic knockoffs). For the record, I bought from discount DLP TV Lamps, so if you're buying from them and expect OEM, I would ask and make sure first. Being charged name brand price for a knockoff bothers me a bit, and that is partly their fault, but mine too for making assumptions, so I can't drop the rating for that... As far as the lamp, it works. It will probably take more time to see how well it does- I imagine the generic brand is why some people's lamps are failing early (warranty is only 6 months). Lamp is easy to put into your existing housing- if you know how to use a screwdriver, don't bother paying the extra 30 bucks to get one in the housing, it's a waste. There's only one screw holding the housing together, and two wires going to the bulb itself- one held with a screw, the other a bolt you can just unscrew/screw with your fingers. It's dead simple.

My previous lamp was still working at 8000 hours when the TV displayed a message to replace it.
I ordered this lamp from Samsungparts (here on Amazon). It arrived very quickly and extremely well packaged. Heavy outer box, Phillips inner box with the lamp suspended in plastic. I quickly looked for a "how-to" video on YouTube and installed the lamp into the housing without incident. Use gloves when handling the new lamp as any skin oil that gets on the surface could cause the lamp to explode or otherwise prematurely fail. As others have said. The new lamp is much brighter then the one it replaced. It is expected to dim about 30% in the first few hundred hours of operation.

Bought this lamp through Discount DLP TV. Thought it was great at first. Then, after 1 month the bulb started to go bad. Contacted the seller. Got a quick response. Mailed back the bulb. After 1.5 weeks I received a new bulb. When I opened the box of the new one, something was shaking inside and a black plastic piece fell out of the box. Immediately after I inserted the new bulb, the picture was extremely dim and poor. Contacted the seller again, quick response, telling me to return the bulb for a replacement. After 1 week I tracked UPS and saw that the bulb got "refused". So, Discount DLP TV asked me to send back the lamp, wait another 1 week+, only to have the same bad lamp returned back to me. I contacted the seller yet again and still have yet to receive any reponse. Contacted Amazon who said they couldn't do anything since the lamp came from a distributor. Amazon could only file an A-Z claim that would put "pressure" on the seller to make it right.
In the end, I went ~3 weeks total without a lamp in my t.v. while having to wait for back and forth shipments of a replacement bulb. (meanwhile, paying for a cable bill for a t.v. that was of no use to me.) I ended up having to dispute the charge with my credit card company. And, I ended up buying another bulb, at a better price nonetheless, at mwave.com. I am very satisfied with mwave.com and would recommend them to anyone looking to replace a t.v. lamp.

OEM - Sony XL-5200 Lamp & Housing,

This is the actual Sony OEM XL-5200 Projector Lamp; in its housing assembly. You can save some $ by purchasing a replica part or just the bulb itself, then install the bulb in existing housing. (I didnt want to bother) Simpler install when you get this full assembly. My first lamp lasted three years for my avid viewing and gaming. I expect the same life span from this OEM part. Less expensive replica part/light probably produce the same picture quality, but may have shorter life.

My rear projection TV needed a bulb. I found it at a great price, original Sony XL5200 bulb. It was delivered very quickly and I installed it to find my picture improved 100%. I would purchase from this site again.
