This amplifier does very well fitting into tight spaces. I've never had any issues with it getting too hot. I did remove the shroud, it just looked too flashy.
I never thought I'd buy a sony made car audio product, but this one doesnt disappoint. There is one thing that should be noted, in case someone doesnt take the time to completely read the specifications for this amplifier.... there is no front low pass crossover, only one for the rear channels. This means that it would be difficult to bridge the front and rear channels together to push two subwoofers.

Perfect Fit,

Bought this amplifier after a few months of research for a low profile amp. And it has not disappointed yet. Installed it in a '95 Corvette behind the drivers seat, it fits perfectly and looks great. The sound is clean and powerful no matter the genre of music. I would highly recommend this amplifier to anyone.

I was looking for a small, powerful, 4 channel amplifier with decent specs. This one certainly fits the criteria. It tucked up nicely under the seat out of the way, and most importantly, it sounds great. I highly recommend.
Buy it while you can. Usually when a product is this good, they discontinue it. ;-)

I purchased a $400 head unit from a seller in China (not the best of ideas that I've had lately, but for the two weeks or so of it working before bitting the dust, I enjoyed all of its GPS, audio and video features - pretty cool). The sound quality was poor compared to the old top of line Kenwood that failed after 6 years of service. I needed a small amp for my 944, which is why I picked this Sony unit. I'm very impressed with the sound, power and features, it made the Chinese unit sound about as good as the Kenwood. I would buy this Sony amp again.

Big power in a small package! I wanted to put in an amp when I redid the sound system in my 2006 Mazda Miata but I couldn't find one small enough to fit under the seat. Well, this little Sony did the trick! It fits perfect! Hooked up to a JVC head unit, my little car rocks!!!! Very easy to install, instructions are easy to follow with good wiring diagrams, very easy to set. If you need a small amp with big power, this is the one for you. I love it to pieces!

I've had this amplifier for 3 years and I am OVERLY impressed with it! At first I used it to power a set of Infinity Reference 6.5" components in the front doors and a set of Infinity Reference 6.5" shallow mount coaxials in the rear doors of a 2006 KIA Sorento LX. I also had one 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect VQ single voice coil subwoofer in a slot ported box powered by an Orion 1200d amplifier. My head unit was a Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP. The Sony amp was MORE than able to power my door speakers! The sound was full and rich, perfectly complementing the subwoofer. After about 2 years, I decided to take out the big Orion amp because it was beating up my electrical system (even with a deep cycle battery!). I was looking for another mono amp to power my 12" sub, then (just to see how it sounded) I hooked up the 12" to the rear channels of this little Sony amp. It gave the sub about 120 watts. The front channels of the amp were still running the front door speakers and the head unit powered the rear door speakers....I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!!!!! This little amp had NO trouble powering my 12" Infinity (which is a pretty hefty subwoofer!) The sound was truely unbelievable!!! My car stereo installer couldn't believe the power of this amp! Everyone that heard my SUV couldn't believe this little amp was running MY ENTIRE SYSTEM (minus the rear door speakers)!!!! I wish there was more I can say about the Sony XM-4S. I dont have that truck anymore, but this same setup (minus the Premier head unit) is going into a 2011 KIA Sorento LX. And if anything happens to this Sony amp, I WILL be buying another one!!!!!!

Bought this to step up the sound in my Chevy Colorado, and Pontiac Solstice. I have put this amp in several other cars and it sounds great and turns up as loud as i need. You wont win any sound competitions, but you will enjoy great, reasonably turned up sound with this amp, if you match it up right with your speakers

Read a ton of reviews before I made the purchase, most of which were favorable. This is a rock solid little amplifier. As with most electronic items if they are not dead out of the box then they usually will work for quite some time so I cannot comment on it's durability as it's only been in use for a month. I can say that during installation one of the speaker wires was hooked up backwards (the imput to the output and vice versa) and the amp's built in protection saved the amp and the radio from any damage. As for the sound .. extremely tight and clean. I initially used the full range on the rear speakers and the bass was more than adequate but after installing the subs in the trunk I switched to the hi-pass option on the rear (there is ample adjustments for front\rear options). An excellent amp for the price and it fits in an extremely tight space under the front seat. You will not be disappointed.

I used this amp to upgrade the system in my IS300 after finding out I just could not replace the factory rear speakers because of the factory amp set-up. I did a lot of searching before deciding on this amp and decided to make the purchase based on other reviews I had seen and the fact that it was compact enough to fit under the passenger seat. I have not been disappointed in this amp in the least bit. I am running it as a 4-channel set-up to JL Audio 6x9's and Pioneer door speakers. The sound quality and the power output is great! You will not be disappointed in this amplifier!

Amp failed, and Warranty Service failed as well,
By
This review is from: Sony XM4S Slim Line 4/3 Channel Amplifier (Electronics)
Bought this amp for a tight space install in a Subaru. Had the install done professionally. Amp provided good sound, pretty much what I was looking for... for two weeks. It's never been overpowered, and it failed by filling the car with acrid transistor smoke while listening to a low-volume broadway show.
Sony customer service is an absolute nightmare. Two rounds of phone tree with different numbers. After finally getting a rep who barely spoke English, I spent literally 85 minutes on the phone, giving information over and over again, being put on hold for 5 minutes, talked to for 30 seconds, hold for 5 minutes. It was deliberately designed to make people give up on getting warranty service. Had to pay for shipping to Texas for "evaluation." No promised turnaround, no swap-out. Too bad. It's a nice little amp, but if you expect that a warranty should mean something, don't buy a Sony. |
