4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect
I got the head unit and it works almost perfectly with my iPhone. Browse speed is super fast, just like you're on the iPhone. I'll list my complaints (minor), but I recommend this head unit to anyone who has an iPhone or iPod touch.

1. It's hard to see the LED during the day. The sun shines on it and everything is dimmed out, it's perfect at night.

1.0 out of 5 stars 820ip may sound Ok, but annoyances prevail
I wanted to like this headunit: it's got ipod controls, hd radio option, and an aux input.

But:
1. ipod controls work fine, but the the song title/artist name scroll only once per song.

2. Many foreign characters are not supported, so you'll see a lot of square boxes in their place even though ipod handles them just fine.

1. It's hard to see the LED during the day. The sun shines on it and everything is dimmed out, it's perfect at night.
2. If you're on the phone before you connect the iPhone, the music will play through the bluetooth.
3. Sometimes I get a no ipod connected message. Doesn't happen often and removing and replacing the phone fixes it.

Like the title says, almost perfect, and definitely worth the price.

Edit: It also charges the phone as well, great bonus!

Great Sound, easy to work, looks great, but not all iPods are compatible. Make sure your iPod is compatible before you buy!!!! I have the new nano ( 4th Gen.) and guess what.... Not compatible!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great sound; Ipod input awkward, June 8, 2008

The sound is great; it's powerful and crisp. (With the note, I am not any super audiophile and this is with the car's factory speakers). Radio reception is very good also. The CD changer is "behind" the swing-door faceplate, which gives more space on the faceplate. The radio memory buttons (1-6) are very tiny compared to most radios. Two factors to think about. (1) The pop-off faceplate is easy to pop off but I find it pretty awkward to hook back on. (2) There is direct IPOD input, but the IPOD interface is pretty awkward. Think about going through 100 albums or 1000 songs, punching the "forward" key one at a time! And it takes a while for the Sony to display each new album name or track name (like 1/2 second). I bought this for the ipod direct input, but it turned out, manipulating the IPOD through the SONY is awkward and I tend to use the IPOD just with a short auxiliary sound cable. If you were listening to something like book-on-tape via IPOD the fact it is plugged in and charging might be worthwhile. If these two factors are not a concern for you, you'll be happy.

I've had this Sony Head Unit for over a year now and it has worked great. I bought it for its control of my Ipod and I have not been disappointed. Works great. And the other thing that many people might not think of is that I don't get any glare on the screen. I can always see what its doing or read the clock. Every Pioneer that I previously owned had terrible glare and if the sun was shinning I couldn't see anything on the screen. This one works great.

this is great for what you pay. all the features are very nice and it makes playing your ipod through it very easy. i would suggest putting the ipod cord through the glove box if possible bc it makes it much easier and keeps it out of the way. it is a little bright at night but you can turn off the background images and it helps. you wont find anything with better features or more dependable for the money. the shipping was decent too.

5.0 out of 5 stars has all the features expensive decks are advertising for half the $, June 5, 2010
This review is from: Sony Xplod CDXGT820IP GT Series Head Unit (Electronics)
i agree with the "almost perfect" review - especially about the daytime visibility - and as for charging the iphone - it USED to charge my iphone 3G, but since i got the 3GS, it no longer does that - but as for scrolling thru the iphone library - having read reviews of more expensive decks, it seems to me that the action with the 'jump' mode and the accuracy of the knob along with the folder selection, makes this receiver worth the few bucks you'll spend on it - i bought one for myself and then got another one for a friend of mine - the CD player is great too - i don't think i've ever heard it skip once - only thing i wish was that the iphone connector was packaged so i could run the wire through a housing and then attach the ipod type connector to the line - since its so bulky, i have to just have it hanging under the dash to where i would connect the phone

This is a great sounding head unit. I have upgraded my sound system in car and this a great deal. The custom equalizer allows you to adjust the Low, Mid, and Hi at different decibles. This head unit powers a Sony 1000 watt 2/1 channel amp, four Sony 5.25" 4-way speakers, and Sony 12" Dual Bass Reflex subwoofer encloser in a 95 Saturn SL1. with the right adjustments of the EQ the sound is seamless. This unit also has a great display as well as it's performance. Remote control also let you control the subwoofer and DSO function. However I do plan to get a ipod in the future, so must chose the right ipod because it dose not support all Nanos especially the new forth generation. But this a steal because it has alot of sound functions. EXPLOD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Sound - Display poor in bright light, August 3, 2008

This review is from: Sony Xplod CDXGT820IP GT Series Head Unit (Electronics)
I just brought the Sony CDX-GT920IP auto radio. I am using my auto stock speakers and still sound great (Honda Civix 2-door LX). I find the interface for WM3 CD's and IPOD a little complicated. I figure it will just take time to get use to the controls. I liked the supplied remote it easy to user and safer to use when driving. Another user complained that it was hard to browse the IPOD music collection since you have to move one album or song at a time. That is not true, there is a brows option that let's you browse 10% of you music at a time, this can really speed up the browsing. My only real complaint it's hard to read the screen in bright daylight. This maybe be a big issue and I need time to decide if it's a deal breaker, since I like everything else about it. I only have had it for a day will update later.
