4.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't stop reading!
This was the first book by Elizabeth Adler that I have read and I couldn't put the book down. I went to sleep thinking about the book, I awoke at 3am and started reading it again. I had to go to work and couldn't wait to get home to finish it. Yes, even though we knew who the killer was and we knew why, it wasn't enough for me to stop reading. Ms. Adler kept me in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the best of Elizabeth
The story of Ellie Duveen will keep you reading all the time, but the books goes out of the story so many times that has parts really boring, it has two mistakes that could be written in other way, for example if a man is a pervert, completely insane, dangerous, and the family doesn't have money to keep him at the mental hospital, the hospital just let him free even if he...

Ms. Adler kept me in suspense, not only with with the killer's plans, but wondering when Dan and Ellie were going to find out they needed each other. Yes, it was predictable, but so enjoyable to find that wonderful chemistry between two people. That's what keeps me coming back to an author. I enjoyed the book very much and look forward to more works by Ms. Adler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nail-Biting Suspense Mixes With Sensuous Romance, February 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Sooner or Later (Mass Market Paperback)
Elizabeth Adler is one of those wonderful authors whose books always satisfy me. SOONER OR LATER falls into her group of romantic suspense novels that feature a strong female lead, a dashing cop (in this case, newly retired and having purchased a California vineyard) and a psychopathic killer obsessed with the female. What could be trite in the hands of a lesser writer becomes engrossing and spellbinding with Adler thanks to clever plotting, interesting back story on the characters, and likeable supporting characters.

Ellie Duveen is a chef, trained in France, and owner of a charming French cafe where she cooks, waits tables, keeps the books, does whatever needed to become highly successful. When our fiercely independent heroine crosses paths with the retired New York cop who has moved to California to start a wine-making business, the sparks are electric. But can two people from such different worlds connect? Will the city girl be able to find happiness with a man who has had enough of city life and only wants the quiet and solitude of his vineyard? You bet, and the predictable path to romance makes for a highly enjoyable read.

A psycho from the past, grisly murders, long-buried memories, a doting grandmother, and exquisite French cooking make this a most enjoyable novel that will not only have you on the edge of your seat with suspense but reveling in the romance as well.

Take this book to your next flight and maybe you will enjoy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, December 19, 1999

This review is from: Sooner or Later (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I, along with everyone else, couldn't put this one down. This was my first Alder book. When I was done, I moved on to another called "Now or Never". That is also an excellent book. If you get the chance - read it. These books, I found, that I would read and an hour or 2 would pass, but it only seemed like a short time. I am in process of looking for more by Adler.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Page-turning romantic suspense novel., June 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sooner or Later (Hardcover)
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Elizabeth Adler's style is similar to the latest Nora Roberts' titles (ie. Sanctuary, River's End, Homeport). Each of Elizabeth Adler's novels is stronger than the last. A bit of mystery, a lot of romance and suspense! "Fortune is a Woman" and "The Rich shall inherit" are worth reading as well. The only novel I have read of hers which I found weak and predictable was 'Secrets of the Villa Mimosa." However, not even that book stops me from seeking out her new releases I A great read for those afternoons at the cottage!

4.0 out of 5 stars My first Adler Book., June 21, 2003

This review is from: Sooner or Later (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first Adler book. And although I am a huge Nora Roberts fan and have been for years, I must say that I truly enjoyed reading this book. Sooner or Later has a lot of story behind the story if that makes sense. Ellie's character is strong and bold. And I really liked Dan, the ex-New York cop. I loved the description and detail Adler gives to everything to make it come to life on each page. The only thing I didn't like about this book was it seems to go back and forth a lot, which is not bad at all but just something I am not used to reading. It was a very fast read. I read this book in two days and I was a little left with wanting more! I would highly recommend this book and River's End by Nora Roberts.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Bit Too Violent, March 30, 2008
This review is from: Sooner or Later (Mass Market Paperback)
I liked most of the characters in the book (with the exception of the villian of course). Dan was quite likable and Ellie was likable but thought she was a little into herself that she thought of nothing else except being a famous (and rich) chef and cafe owner. She had no time for anyone in her life which of course by story end, she changed her mind.

As another reviewer mentioned I was puzzled that someone so psychotic would be released from a mental hospital to reek havoc on so many people. Even if the private hospital could no longer keep him, they knew he was violent and just realease him? h-m-m! The thing that really was too much for me is that Ellie is his sister for heaven's sake and he was in love and obsessed with her? Sick! I thought it went on a little long after Buck abducts Ellie and treats her so violently. I skimmed a lot or this part.

I'm a little disappointed in the endings of MS. Adler's books sometimes. Though you are left with the idea they are together, no one says "I love you" and marriage isn't mentioned though you get the idea it's implied.

Oh well, it isn't a bad book and was entertaining. I like a good mystery along with some romance but not quite as much brutal violence.
