5.0 out of 5 stars I Miss Johnny Hammond Crankin' It Out Electric
An excellent follow-up to John's Muscle Shoals masterpiece Southern Fried. The Muscle Shoals Swamppers & Duane Sky-Dog Allman navigate their way through the familiar turff of Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf and Elmore James blues staples. Sooner Or Later together with Southern Fried marked a high point in the "electric" phase of John Hammond's great recording career. While his...

Everyone who knows John Hammond's music knows that he only does covers of famous blues standards and his singing, harmonica and guitar playing are always excellent-those are known quantities, and this re-release of a 60's album is no exception. But prospective buyers should know that there is only 29 minutes of music here. So, if you're new to John's music, you should...

But prospective buyers should know that there is only 29 minutes of music here. So, if you're new to John's music, you should consider his Greatest Hits instead which has over 70 minutes of blues covers. But if you're a collector, you'll buy this no matter what.

Sooner Or Later together with Southern Fried marked a high point in the "electric" phase of John Hammond's great recording career. While his work is beautiful on both acoustic and electric, I miss hearing Johnny crank it out on his electric axe. This one's a keeper. Get it before it's out of production, as is the case with Southern Fried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great seminal electric album!, October 8, 2006
This review is from: Sooner Or Later (Audio CD)
Unfortunatly John stopped playing electric long ago. I asked him once if he would ever go back to playing in a band and he was pretty adamant that he wouldn't. As a musician who's tried to keep bands together I now can understand his reticence. I still think that his electric albums are among the finest blues available. Some are a collaboration with the Robby Robertson and Band and one features Duane Allman on slide, recorded at the famous Muscle Shoales studios. This is raw powerful stuff recorded long before electric blues became calcified. Fire up the hi-fi and shake your money maker!!!!!
