A bit of a letdown, August 26, 2009
This review is from: ChillowPlus Deluxe Cooling Insert (Kitchen)
I was really excited to get one of these, as I've been suffering through the never ending menopause. The Chillow works, in that, it has a nice, cool surface. It very much cools me down when I first lie down on it. However, these are the negatives.
-It's bulky and heavy and very hard to get situated. It's so heavy, in fact, that it squishes my pillows down too flat.
- If you put it inside a pillow case (atop a pillow) it won't stay in place. If you use it outside the pillow, well, you're lying on plastic -- which just made me sweat.
- it got very very warm during the night. Not just "no longer cool", but nearly what I'd call HOT. I awoke with the sensation of lying on a heating pad.
-the pad bunches up inside the plastic case. I've only had it 1 1/2 weeks.
-the smell has faded some, but there is still a strong plastic smell. Heck, I smell like plastic after I wake up!!
So really, I found it useful to help get to sleep, but when I woke up during the night, (sometimes after only 2 hours) I was lying on a hot, wrinkly, heavy lump of soggy plastic. I'll take the hot flashes, thanks anyway.

Great Product, July 23, 2008
The ChillowPlus product works as advertised. It stays cool longer than I thought which is great for me. Works great on one of the memory foam pillows. I was a little concerned that there is no requirement to empty the water out when not in use but so far it's been working fine.

WITH CHILLOW I WAKE UP COOL & RESTED, June 25, 2009
This review is from: ChillowPlus Deluxe Cooling Insert (Kitchen)
NEVER, EVER, BUY A VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE FOAM MATRESS ( initials T-P ). I had been suffering, & tossin'& turnin', & sweatin' like an oldie after just a few nights on my new "sweat-o-pedic". I tried everything I could think of...cold showers at midnight, ice in zip-loc bags, [they leak:( ] ,sleeping in the buff...oops I didn't intend to admit that. (my pastor sez sleeping nude could lead to dancing) Anyhoo, I was miserable...AND THEN I FOUND CHILLOW & the rest (& the sweats) are history.
Yes, they DO warm up to body temp eventually but that's why I BOUGHT TWO!!! I keep an extra next to my bed & switch if needed. I liked them so much I bought a third to put inside the pillowcase with my icky-sticky T-P neck bump pillow. I don't care if they DO wear out...I'll just buy more.
EDIT.....MAY 2010
Yes, I DID have to buy TWO MORE. They didn't spring a leak but they got full of MOLD .....YUCK!
I stored them in my closet for the winter & now they are full of mold & SMELL.
I really thought they would last more than one season.
They work so well, & as I have no alternative, I bought 2 more.
I bought distilled water to fill them with this time & think I'll add a bit of bleach to the water.
I guess I should have drained them befor winter storage, but the manufacturer didn't mention anything about that. They DID say that if they develop mold they should be tossed.
We'll see how my new plan works.
I DO NOT intend to spend money on 2 new ones EVERY year.
