5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound clarity, January 9, 2002

I had purchased the Fisher Price Vibrating monitor to begin with... When I got it home I tried it out to see how good the sound clarity of it was; well, as soon as I plugged it in to test it out I was severely dissappointed! It had a lot of static and really poor sound. That is how I ended up with the Fisher Price Soothing Dreams Monitor. As soon as I got this one home I did the same and tested it for sound clarity. It was wonderful! I was immediately impressed by the sound quality and the fact that it had absolutely no static whatsoever and no interfering noises! It also has a light show that projects on the ceiling. The light show can either be played with or without music for the sanity of the parents. It also has a night light for the infant that can be used with or without music. I also loved it because it has the intercom feature that allows you to soothe your baby as you are walking to him/her. Even though this monitor is on the pricier side it is definately worth the 49.99 that I paid for it at Babies R Us! I am a fist time mom awaiting the arrival of a little boy and cannot wait to use this wonderful product!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST YET!, January 24, 2002

I love this monitor! It not only has excellent sound clarity, but has features that allow you to remotely soothe and entertain your baby. The projector show is awesome...I only wish I had it as a kid! Actually, my 6, 8, and 10 year old children wish they had something like this for their rooms! I had received the more expensive the Next Generation 2.4GHz monitor (it sells for more money), and was so disappointed I went back to using my very old Fisher Price monitor that now sells for $...! I saw this and thought the projector show, night light and 2 way feature were too irresistible to pass up. I was delighted to plug it in and hear crystal clear sound quality. The only static I have experienced so far has been during microwave use, and then it was very minimal. All monitors I have ever owned had static during microwave use, but usually to the extent of sound distortion. Not on this one...baby sounds still come through loud and clear when the microwave is in use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great product with one exception, January 24, 2002

Overall this is a great monitor. I originally purchased the Graco 900 MHZ 3 way monitor and was very dissapointed with the quality (lots of static). I returned it for the Soothing Dreams monitor and my daughter (5 months old) loves it, especially the light show. However, I do have one complaint. I have had to return this unit three times because the monitor will turn on and off by itself whenever she cries. I called Fisher Price to verify if this unit is voice activated and they said it is not nor have they had any similar complaints. The quality with this product is otherwise great. It has very little static and all the options are wonderul. If I didnt like it so much I would have not have bothered to return it 3 times. I highly recommend this product (and hope the problems I have had were isolated to just a few units).

What a wonderful concept if only it worked. We purchased this monitor because of all the "great" features. The light show and music are great but the monitor itself was horrible. We had nothing but static. We could not even hear our son. The monitor would shut on & off on it's own. The intercom mode would be great if it worked properly. Voices come through very distorted on both units. This feature should be to reassure your child not scare them.

My personal opinion for anyone would be to NOT buy this product if your looking for the security a monitor should give you. If you are looking for a light show for your child then this is for you. We have since purchased the Evenflo Constant Care monitor ~ We love it! It gives all the security we expected from a monitor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time, March 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Soothing Dreams Monistor with Remote Control, Fisher-Price (Baby Product)
We bought this because of the additional features it offered compared with other monitors. Several problems:
1. There is a constant pulsing on both channels (my friend's monitor works fine in our house so we don't have a local interference problem).
2. Yes, you can talk to your baby using the handset but it's distorted so much it's scary!
3. The light show is nice but there is no focus adjustment so it doesn't look that great.
4. The soothing sounds are not soothing due to the constant background buzzing. In fact, it just sounds cheap and nasty.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money!, November 20, 2002

I thought that I would ignore the reviews I had read about this monitor, "It couldn't be that bad" I thought to myself, well I was wrong! This monitor is terrible! There is so much static and clicking in the receiver that I couldn't hear my son and my husband and I couldn't sleep with it on. The reason we got a monitor was to be able to hear our baby and all we could hear was interference with this monitor. Not only was the static bad but you can't position the projector where you want it so pretty much the only way to get the image on the ceiling above the crib would be to put the monitor in the crib. When I returned this monitor to Babies-R-Us the sales girl told me that no one is ever satisfied with that monitor and they almost all get returned. I bought the Constant Care 3000 2-way Communicator by Evenflo instead and it is WONDERFUL!!!! I can still talk to my son when I'm not in the room, with the 2 way communicator and the reception is clear as a bell!

3.0 out of 5 stars Like it and hate it!, August 14, 2002
By
This review is from: Soothing Dreams Monistor with Remote Control, Fisher-Price (Baby Product)
I find this monitor to have a lot of functions to it. They are great when they work. The first time I used the lightshow, it played for around 5 minutes, and then the bulb burned out. Of course, no extra bulbs are included, so you have to find a place to sell these bulbs...I have since gone through about 10 bulbs. Try to explain to a baby why he can't watch something that he is fascinated by. I have tried to contact Fisher Price about 3 times, but not heard back from customer service as of yet. So, for the time being, I replace the bulbs.

The remote function to turn on the light show or talk to your baby is a great feature! Music is relaxing to the baby, and it's easy to use.

If you can get past the replacing of the bulbs, it's not a bad product....maybe I should just try & purchase another one and return this lemon!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Technology, April 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Soothing Dreams Monistor with Remote Control, Fisher-Price (Baby Product)
I was disappointed with this monitor for three reasons: 1.)The unit for the child's room takes up an exceptional amount of room. 2.) The light show is useless unless you have a table positioned at least 2.5 feet from the wall. 3.) The constant clicking on the parent's receiver drives you crazy....forget about sleeping if this is on! Fisher Price honestly agrees that the clicking cannot be fixed. I traded mine in for the Fisher Price 900 MHZ Vibrating Monitor....it is so clear and concise I can hear the birds sing in the front yard.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea in Principle, September 11, 2002
By
Grasshopper (Pleasanton, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soothing Dreams Monistor with Remote Control, Fisher-Price (Baby Product)
After some research and consulting the Baby Bargains book, we got this monitor because of all the neat features. Fisher Price had a good idea here in principle. In practice there are several problems:

1) When the unit is in Sound & Light mode, any cry from the baby will turn the sound and lights on. This could have been a good calming feature for the baby, except a second cry turns it off. So what you get is music and lights turning on and off and on and off and on and off...as the baby crys! It's not only crying - I can be whistling to the baby in his nursery and the same thing happens. I called Fisher Price and they said they were aware of this design flaw and that all of their sound and light products were susceptible. The rep told me it should only happen when there is a loud cry. What other kind is there? I suggested they should add a timer feature to prevent this.

2)We placed the monitor about 5 feet from the crib on the changing table. Forget about the baby seeing the projected light show. The monitor needs to be within a few feet of the crib for the baby to see it.

3)OK sound reception. We hear the baby fine, but there is a rhythmic hum in the background on both channels.

Not sure yet if we will return it. We may try out the 900 MHz model with dual receivers.

the thing is neat but, it has this constant click--click--click! if the click would stop i would be satisfied but it is so annoying! sometimes the click is low but other times it is so loud! i also have a friend who is having the exact same problem. it is not interfearence and there is nothing i can do to stop it! i try to turn the volume down some but if it is too low i can't hear my baby! i am seriously considering returning the product. too bad, my daughter loves the light show but as a monitor it is not very good!
