Exposing Christianity, July 22, 2006
This review is from: Sophia Bestiae: The Wisdom of the Beast (Paperback)
Well, one good thing about all the exposure this book and the Da Vinci Code has received is that it is exposing people to old ideas they may not have even heard of before. Granted, there are a bit of liberties taken in the writing of this book, but there is still quite a lot of good information to be found. It at least introducing things that people can explore on their own. This book is filled with truth which was sadly downplayed or corrupted by the Catholic church and much of Christianity as a whole, it is worth re-exploring. Reality is subjective... -Sinagogue of Satan

A Noble Effort; or, Worth Reading, Not Worth Buying, October 26, 2011
This review is from: Sophia Bestiae: The Wisdom of the Beast (Paperback)
Good things about this book:
- Lots of passages provided from the KJV Bible backing up author's points, including passages/books generally bypassed or ignored by evangelical Christians promoting their "world view."
Not so good things about this book:
- Not much in the way of original insight. Each chapter basically includes a small blurb (a couple of paragraphs at the most) followed by a laundry list of Biblical passages with no extrapolation or discussion given.
- Not much in the way of academic material. Reading it, I didn't get the sense that the author had a particularly profound understanding of the Bible in general. Quote this book and you are likely to be shredded by an apologeticist who knows what their talking about. My observation is that O'Toole appears to be more of a conspiracy theorist than a scholar.
- Preachy, rant-like tone. The last two chapters read like a badly rehashed version of LaVey's works.
- Poor editing. Fancy "evil" looking fonts and cheap graphics give this book an almost immature, "evil lite" air.
My recommendations:
- Find an English translation of the Nag Hammadi's creation story and read that instead of this book's first section.
- Cross-reference every Biblical passage from this book BEFORE you use it in an argument to make sure you have the context down correct. (Search King James Bible online and you'll come across a site that lets you type in the book, chapter and line and pull the quote.)

Eye opening and thought provoking!, February 3, 2008
This review is from: Sophia Bestiae: The Wisdom of the Beast (Paperback)
This is one of the most eye-opening and thought provoking books that I have ever read. Regardless of your background or feelings on the subject of "God", this book will shed new light on his true work among the human race.Highly recommended for any "thinking" person.
