Uncovered musical beauty,
By A Customer
This review is from: Sophie Zelmani (Audio CD)
When I first heard Sophie Zelmani it was on a hit tv show. The song that was featured was amazing, but I couldn't find out who actually sang it! I searched everywhere; Buffy web sites, asked friends, E-mailed everyone, but I couldn't find out who sang the song! Then one day I heard the song again, and this time it was on a different show but Sophie Zelmani was acknowledged as the artist in the end. When I saw her picture on the TV screen, and heard the song in the background, I went balistic! I found her CD at the store immediatetly, and ever since then it's been in my CD case. The songs on this CD are so beautiful, and touching. Sophie is not afraid to explore her sheltered side, yet she does it without being vulgar like some of the better known female artists today. She has compiled a beautiful CD which deserves recognition, and much plaudit. As soon as you pop this CD into your player, the first few touching cords of "I'll Remember You" will capture you, and you will be hooked. Enjoy!

IT'S THE BOMB!,

This review is from: Sophie Zelmani (Audio CD)
Sophie Zelmani is great! I first heard her on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and then on the "My Best Friend's Wedding." I feel in love with the song "Always You." It makes to want to hear it over, and over, and over again. It took me a looooooooong time to find her CD. So when you find it, don't let out of your sight! Her music touches your heart and soul. Her songs are somewhat like Sophie Hawkins'.

Grew up on me like no other album,
By Sandy (Brussels, Belgium) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sophie Zelmani (Audio CD)
It took me three times before this album became a classic in my collection. The first time I'm afraid I overlooked her because I had bough Sarah McLachlan "Surfacing" the same day and was mesmerized. The second time, some songs started to stand up and got repeat treatment. The third time, the connection happened. I purchased all her further releases since."There must be a reason" is an upbeat folksong about relationships between a girl and her stepfather. I guess there is some autobiographical content as the touching "Tell me you're joking" is about a child who just lost his father. I love "You and me" story telling style. There is no chorus in this song portraying the quick encounter of a girl and a homeless man in the street while she's waiting for her bus. "I'll see you in another world" is a beautiful upbeat ballad. I liked the saxophone solo and the light whistle at the end. Those are my favorite songs, but are not the only assets of the album. "I'd be broken", "So good", "Always you", "Until dawn" and "Stand by" are pop folk songs that instantaneously stick in your head once you heard them. I recommend Sophie's albums to anyone who enjoys Lilith Fair girls, and especially to Suzanne Vega listeners.

Simple Elegance,
By ... "vilbs" (Montreal) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sophie Zelmani (Audio CD)
I'm hard pressed to do justice to the simple elegance of this album in a review, and I'll freely admit that it took me several listens to really get into Sophie Zelmani. At a casual listen it sounds soft and doesn't really grab your attention, but with a few repeated listening her lilting voice and subtle instrumentation really caught my ear, and before long I was officially hooked. To be entirely truthful, this is a rather melancholy album with themes dwelling continually on the dissolution of the family and abandonment by the father. The songwriting is very much in a storytelling style, and although there is a slight hint of pop to the songs it's the folk and blues influences that really shine through. Although every song is replete with understated beauty, some personal favorites include the opener "I'd be broken", the more upbeat "I'll see you", "Tell me you're joking", and "I'll remember you". Unfortunately not well known, Sophie writes and sings in her very own distinctive way. She sounds different from anyone else out there, and its well worth your time to track down some of her albums to find out for yourself.

Always Sophie,

A friend let me borrow this CD a year ago. I'd never heard of Sophie Zelmani, but once I listened to her songs, I wanted to hear more. Her song "Always You" is so tender yet savage. She has the kind of softness in her voice that makes her distinctive from comparables like Sarah Mclachlan, Tori Amos and Jewel.

Hi people! I'm a rock and alternative listener and first heard her song "I'll Remember You" on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Instantly I loved the song. It's such a great piece and the lyrics are just great.I don't know how long I've had this cd, but it's still a rotation on my stereo system. Sophie Zelmani deserves to be known better. She's a hell of a lot better than most artists out there, which will remain unnamed but you know who they are.

I was introduced to this breathtaking CD while hosting a college morning show in Kalamazoo, MI and Sophie's dynamic voice became one of our must play staples. The CD features precise guitars and saxs intertwined with heavenly vocals that leaves you craving for another album. "You and Him" should have become a hit single. If you like Holly Palmer, Lisa Loeb, or Ivy you're sure to be very pleased with Sophie Zelmani.

I heard one song by Sophie Zelmani on an episode of Dawson's Creek sometime at the beginning of 1998. I went on a vain search for the album, finally finding it in New York last weekend. Ever since, I've been listening to it nonstop. I'm absolutely adore the CD. I think she truly has talent, and I anxiously await another release!
