Sophie's Heart,
By Tiffany Anders (La Selva Beach, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Set in a small town in Wisconsin during the late '80's and early '90's, Sophie's Heart, by Lori Wick, is a story of true love. After Vanessa Riley died in a fatal accident, Alec Riley was left to take care of his three children by himself. He did not realize he was bearly making it until Sophia Velikonja walked into their lives. An immigrant from Czechoslavakia, Sophie took a job as a housekeeper for the Riley's. Trying to show the love of Jesus through her actions, she gets much more love back than she could ever ask for. This was a wonderful book. Instead of showing love as a feeling that changes with the moment, it showed a realistic picture of two peole who fall in love, with all the uncertainties and trials that go along with it. Anyone who likes to read about loving others and loving God should definitely read Sophie's Heart.

PHENOMENAL!!,

This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I have to admit I began to read this book a bit cautiously. I had several friends tell me it wasn't Lori Wick's best work. I couldn't disagree more. This book was wonderfully written and showed that Lori Wick is capable of writing incredible contemprary fiction. I was pleased with the plot although predictable in a lot of places, it was still thrilling. Each of the characters were fully developed and the book ended so well that I don't feel that there would need to be a sequel.Well done Lori Wick!

Soooo sweet!,

This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Sophie, a Czechoslovakian woman who worked as a translator in her native country, finds herself in a totally different world when she moves to the United States...Chicago to be exact. Hating her job as a waitress in a busy city, she soon finds a job in a small Wisconsin town keeping house for a grieving widower, Alec Riley, and his children. What follows is the cutest, sweetest love story. This is definitely Lori Wick in her finest form-gentle lessons about life, cute bits of humor, and a warm love story make this one of those "comfort" books to curl up with. I have read this book three times (whenever I feel the need for a nice sweet read) and have loved gentle, caring Sophie every time. The story of love and family healing is one that you won't want to miss..."Sophie's Heart" will capture your heart!

Sophie's Heart deserves a trophy,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I loved this book. It's a nice "read on the couch" book and is touching and sensitive. My three sisters and my mom all loved it, too. Lori Wick is a great author. I couldn't believe it when someone reviewing the book said it went on and on...sure, it had a lot of pages, but it's the type of book you WANT to keep reading, so I don't know what went into her\his head. Otherwise her review was pretty good. Sophie is a lovable person who has a tender heart. She was a translator, but obviously didn't get cocky over that because she wanted to be a housekeeper, which most people assume is for "dummies" Sophie wasn't that. She wouldn't have wanted housecleaning as a career. One thing I love about these books are the characters are so good....While people in life are lucky to get someone as good as in the romance novels, it's lovely reading about these wonderful people so vividly described so you feel like you know them. Like always after a good book, after I finished reading it, I just sat there and wanted to keep reading. I always want to get to the end, no matter what I'm reading, but once I'm there, it it's really good, I want it to go on and on and on....

"Simply Sophie",
By Marsha Taylor (Huntington, West Virginia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
I have read many fiction christian novels, but this one tops them all! With each and every page I became so involved in the lives of each character. Never before have I cried and laughed at the same time! Throughout the whole book, I kept telling myself that we are so spoiled in America and that we need to be more like Sophie and enjoy the "simple" things that God does for us! Truly, Sophie is an inspiration to my own personal christian walk, and I daily try to seek God and what He has for me! Great work, Lori! I need these inspirational characters to keep me in check! Keep up the good work!

The Gold Standard for modern Christian Romance,
By
This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
A recent Czech emigre, Sophie is battling language difficulties, thoughtless cultural stereotyping, loneliness, and financial hardship. A church friend helps her land a job as a housekeeper to Alec Riley. Alec has lost his wife in a car crash. He reacts by desperately turning himself into a workaholic and emotionally abandons his three children (ages 16, 12, 10) to wander in their own pain-filled daze. Sophie arrives and wonderful life-changing mayhem ensues. Sophie's tenuous grasp of English helps fill this book with laugh-out-loud humor and all five main characters have fully developed story lines that entices the reader right into the family. You will live the story with them.

Another Amazing Example of Fine Christian Fiction!,

Lori Wick has done it again! In her novel "Sophie's Heart" she has expertly crafted a fine tale of a young Czechoslavakian who travels from her native country to live and work in America. She leaves her only living relative behind, along with her government position, and finds herself working as a housekeeper for Alec Riley. Alec has lost his wife and is drowning in grief while still trying to raise his 3 children, Rita, Craig, and Tory. I won't reveal any more because this book is so fascinating you'll want to read it for yourself. If you are fan of Lori Wick, Christian fiction, or just fiction in general, this is a must-read story of God's healing love.

TOUCHING, HEARTWARMING STORY,
By "neerod" (Sacramento, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
It had been awhile since I had read a Christian fiction book. I enjoyed this book very much. Sophie, an intelligent and highly educated woman from Czechoslovakia, comes to the United States with high expectations and dreams. After spending time in a lowly job, she hires on as housekeeper for a man and his three children, who have recently lost their mother. This job must have seemed lowly and an embarassment for a woman of Sophie's intelligence, but she is determined to do the very best she can. I loved Sophie's gentle spirit and her compassionate heart. She not only changed the hearts of the characters in the story, but mine as well. This book just brings YOU into the story! You feel the emotion that the characters in the story feel. You feel like you know Sophie as well. This story is so touching and it moved me to tears at the end of the book. This seldoms happens when I read a book. I highly recommend this inspirational story and will look for more books by Lori Wick.

This review is from: Sophie's Heart (Contemporary Romance) (Paperback)
Sophie's Heart defintely touched my heart - I grew close to Sophie and was saddened when I reached the end of the book - I felt as though she was a part of me and I didn't want it to end! It was a GREAT read and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys Christian literature. I've read many of Lori's works and she is positively one of my favorite authors.
