5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Books
Sophie LaCroix's life seems to be going fine. She has her two best friends, Fiona and Kitty, to make films with and she's making better grades.

However, Sophie feels like her father is putting too much pressure on her to act like her big sister, Lacie, and when she makes a discovery in the attic, she's certain she's adopted. Will Sophie ever be able to trust...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book
I enjoyed the first book of this series a lot, and was excited to read the second one. However, I think this book isn't as good as the first. Sophie still has problems, and is trying to work her way through that tough age between childhood and adulthood. Her father still doesn't understand her. It is their relationship that interests me the most in Nancy Rue's books...

Will Sophie ever be able to trust her parents again?

Sophie's family tension is something everyone can relate to, now matter what their postion in the family is. The writing is vivid and descriptive, the plot is unpredictable and easy to follow, and there is a clear message about God without being preachy.

Nancy Rue is an awesome writer!

I downloaded this book for my Kindle when there was a free promotion, and didn't have any expectations. When I started it, I was thinking, "I'm not the target audience for this", but I kept going, and I was rooting for Sophie by the end. It's an entertaining story, and I enjoyed it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, December 18, 2010

I enjoyed the first book of this series a lot, and was excited to read the second one. However, I think this book isn't as good as the first. Sophie still has problems, and is trying to work her way through that tough age between childhood and adulthood. Her father still doesn't understand her. It is their relationship that interests me the most in Nancy Rue's books about Sophie. And we, the readers, finally find out the reason why her father is so hard on her.

It may be because I'm so far past the age group this book is aimed at, but I felt the answer was too easy. That relationships between father and daughter can be complicated just because they are two different people. I didn't need a cause as much as a resolution to try to understand each other.

I would still recommend this book. Nancy Rue creates great characters and gives them real problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for middle grades readers, December 4, 2011

Sophie has a wild imagination. Whether she is planning an archaeological dig in her back yard, or trying to determine if she was adopted, Sophie often lets her thoughts get the best of her, and lands herself in a lot of hot water. So, what will happen when she learns the truth about a family secret?

This is the second book in a series of Christian middle grades literature about a girl who can sometimes have difficulties dealing with reality. While I have not read the first book, I did find this book really engaging. Sophie is a likeable character, one to whom I think many middle grades girls will relate. Her struggles are not all that different from the ones we all had as kids.

I liked that Sophie was an imperfect child, that she struggled with obedience, social interactions, and most of all her faith. I think lots of girls in the target reading audience have similar difficulties, and it will be useful to watch how a literary character handles them. I think the girls who read this book will see parts of Sophie in themselves. This is the exact kind of book my niece (who is in 5th grade) would love.

All in all, I think this is a great book (and series) for middle grades readers. It will probably appeal to girls more than boys.

4.0 out of 5 stars this deserves 3.5 stars, August 15, 2010
A Kid's Review
this book, like i sad, deserves 3.5 stars. not as good as the Lily books by nancy rue, but pretty good/ok. about how her father doesn't understand her and she goes to a therapist (dr. peter) and talks about it. her new imaginary character is Dr. Demetria Diggerty. (an archiologist) she then after 'digging' in the attic thinks shes adopted.
