Sophie Lee really tells what suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrome is like in her personal memoir entitled Sophie's Story. It's evident that Sophie's 20-year battle with IBS was truly a battle. Sophie has a great skill in story telling, because as you read her tale you feel like Sophie is talking directly to you. At times, it isn't pretty. Soiling oneself or agonizing over how does one make a living with an illness that owns you, is something that likely many severe IBS sufferers can relate to. I applaud Sophie for sharing details that are difficult to talk about, let alone publish in a book for the whole world to read. Sophie's Story leaves the reader knowing that different regiments may help for long periods as is evidenced by the positive ending of the story. As the battle continues for many of us, we are fortunate to have such an articulate, smart and witty author and fellow sufferer that we can relate to while we fight our own battles.

What a book! As a long time sufferer of IBS (over 20 years) I found it comforting that others share the same story. The language that Sophie used in this book mirrors the language (or titles) that I have used over the years to help me explain or understand this Syndrome. It is a terrible Syndrome that is so unpredictable and at times down right frustrating, but it is manageable, and not life threatening - I guess that is something to be grateful for. I would recommend reading this book to all IBS sufferers, family and friends if possible. As Sophie rightly indicates - there is no quick fix but she has some great ideas that might assist others to manage IBS. A problem shared is a problem halved. Thanks Sophie for taking the time to share your story - well worth the money.

Reading this book was a lifesaver for me. It gave me hope and for the very first time I felt like I was not alone. I have been battling IBS with constipation for 6 years now and actually had constipation issues as far back as childhood. However, I had managed to have my condition under control for years, but when it resurfaced, it resurfaced with a vengeance. By the time I got around to ordering "Sophie's Story," I was down to 98lbs, not eating and barely drinking anything and had been out of work for 6 weeks. I ordered the book on a Wednesday morning, and received it that Friday afternoon. I started the book as soon as I received it and finished it on Saturday morning.

Even though, I was not actually talking to Sophie Lee, I felt like I was sharing the darkest part of my life with a close friend! She has written this book, just as if she is telling you face-to-face what she had gone through! The book was open, honest, to the point and very easy to read. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is suffering with IBS or to anyone who is living with someone who is suffering with this horrible illness. And, if you are a parent of a child with IBS, this book is a must-read for you. Children, are easily brushed off when they have a complaint or a problem because as adults we tend to think it can't be as bad as they are making it sound. But, I can assure you from experience that IBS is not just a tummy ache that will be gone in the morning!

This book gave me the boost I needed and helped me to realize that if I was going to get better, it was probably going to be because of something I did for myself.

I read this book on vacation (always an iffy proposition for IBS sufferers) and couldn't put it down. Sophie tells her story like she's sitting next to you and you feel like holding her hand and nodding the whole time. She would understand why I wasn't eager to take that bus tour (no toilet on the bus) of Nassau. She wouldn't be upset if I had to bolt away from the dinner table at a 5 star restaurant. She would commiserate about all the money wasted on useless treatments. If you are an IBS sufferer, or know someone who is, you MUST read this book.

Finally an autobiography which deals with IBS in a dignified manner which makes no claims to specific products, supplements, hypnotherapy ,diets which most books about IBS books do. Sophie Lee records her struggle with IBS and gives encouragement to sufferers.I think you will benefit by reading the UK NHS compared to our own insurance companies. Her autobiographysuggests trial and error.Even more important do not let people intimidate by saying ;'' It's all in your head''.

I chose this book because I needed a self help book to help me cope with IBS that struck me 7 months ago. I was getting nowhere with doctors who pooh poohed it as a nervous disorder, told me to relax while I was trying not to go to the bathroom in my pants as my colon was out of control and so was my life. I liked the book from the cover to the end. It was wonderful to read a book that was written by a woman who live with this horrible IBS syndrome for 20 years where I was really affected by it for 7 months and didn't know how I was going to cope with this. I would recommend this to anyone who wants help with this syndrome to read it and get answers from someone who has the answer how to cope and live a life without fear or understanding what is happening to you and your way of life. Also, she has a website where you can get more personal life stories and can vent what is going on in your life in a way doctors don't do when you ask them for the help you need. Highly recommended for all IBS sufferers. Thank you Sophie.
