Book Description

August 8, 2012
Slapper. Slut. Adulteress. These are hardly words that Sophie Penhalligan would normally use to describe herself. Yet this is exactly how she is behaving, all things considered, even if she isn't quite married to Tim yet. And it's all happening because her past is coming to tempt her! Nine years ago, she met her teenage idol and rock star extraordinaire, Dan, up close and personal. Well, almost. Now Dan has crash-landed back in her life. Sophie is happily embroiled in a relationship with Tim, her boyfriend of two years. Until recently, she was confident Tim would eventually propose-probably as soon as he could get his act together. But just as Tim's persistent inaction is beginning to cast a cloud over their relationship, Dan's sudden reappearance turns Sophie's world upside down. One fine day in Paris, Sophie suddenly finds herself engaged to Dan while her erstwhile fiancé Tim is...well, doing whatever it is Tim does back in London. What is she to do now? Who wouldn't give anything to meet their favorite star, let alone marry him? Find out how Sophie gets into this impossible situation, and how she turns it around, in Sophie's Turn, the honest, funny and sometimes bittersweet story of one woman's entanglement with a rock star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sophie's Turn February 26, 2013
Format:Paperback
I don’t really know how I ran into Sophie’s Turn, what I do know is that I am really happy that I did!
Sophie’s Turn is the first book in the rock star romance trilogy. And Nick Wells does a great work presenting the characters. In my point of view the characters are really well developed. She truly makes you feel them, understand them, identify with them and love them.

The book starts with a marriage proposal, and it is not any proposal. He is the amazing rock star that she’s been loving since she was a teenager, how she could say no? There is a teeny tiny problem though; she is already engaged to Tim, a handsome accountant. How did she get into that situation? What should she do now?

The lucky girl is Sophie (I love her!). She is the one between these two loves. In the beginning, she tells us how happy she is with her life. She has a good job, a handsome and successful accountant as a boyfriend (future fiancé), what else can she ask for? But from the very start, she is remembering something that happened 10 years ago. She goes back to the time when she met the amazing rock star that she as a teenager loved. So you start wondering why, if everything is so great with her life, all those memories keep coming uninvited to her mind. Picture then what happens when Dan (the rock star) reappears in her life and tries to be a part of it.
I have to say that I loved the book, and here are the reasons why. Sophie is a normal, common girl. She is a young woman still trying to find herself, even when it appears that everything is settled down. She is trying to decide what she wants, not only in her lover life, but in life in general. She is someone that realizes that somewhere along the road, she lost herself; she lost a part of her. Now she is realizing that, and that she misses the person she used to be. She noticed that there is something missing in her life, even when everything seems perfect.
I loved the fact that, even when she does things that you may not approve (neither does she), she struggles with that and tries her best to make it better. She doesn’t want to be that kind of person, the cheating kind, and she understands how difficult it is sometimes to be true to herself without hurting other people. She is always in conflict with her conscience and she is trying to do what is right, and also what feels right. She ends up doing things that she always thought she would never do, and that makes her think, and question herself. And she makes decisions and makes mistakes, just like we all do. She is real, and with her two feet on the ground. She doesn’t let luxury, trips, 5 stars hotels, diamonds and fame cloud her judgement, and she always remains the small town girl.
Dan, what can I say about him (I could easily fall for him!)? Imagine that the rock star that you’ve loved and adored during your teenage years and for more than a decade appears in your life. And he turns out to be an amazing man, loving, caring and he seems to really understand you and he knows you better than you know yourself and he wants you in his life (who haven’t dreamt about it?)…What would you do? For me it was all said and done, but of course, things didn’t end as I thought, what makes this story genuinely great. Luckily for me, when I finished Sophie’s Turn I already had Sophie’s Run, the second book in the trilogy, so I could go on enjoying Sophie’s adventures!
Hope you enjoy this book as much as I did! A must read!

A laugh out loud, extremely easy to read, fabulous book that whisks you off and transports you a whole other exciting world!

Sophie, a budding journalist on a London paper used to be a massive fan of rock band TUSCQ back in the 80s and travelled the country in her youth to follow TUSCQ and blagged her way into their dressing room and onto their tour coach with the lead singer Dan who was the man of her dreams!

She is now with Tim, an Accountant and he is a nice, average man, but there's not much excitement and romance in her life, much to the disappointment of her best mate Rachel . When at the airport, waiting to check-in for a flight, she spots a familiar face in the queue who turns out to be Darren, one of the old members of TUSCQ. He amazingly recognises her too and they meet up and have a chat before she flies off to New York. He tells her that the band have reformed and are doing a few intimate gigs and she decides to go and watch one of them.

This puts her back in touch with the band and particularly back in touch with the man of her old dreams Dan, who sweeps her off her feet and after inviting them to cover their new tour proposes to her!

Find out whether the grass really is greener on the other side and who Sophie decides to be with in this fabulously well written, romance which is guaranteed to make you smile and has a quite unexpected ending. Sophie is an outstanding and believable character who'd you love to be friends with.

Can't believe that this is Nicky's first book. She writes in such a fabulously colourful and descriptive way which makes you believe you are the main character of the book, and feel the deep emotions of the characters. I was on that tour bus! I was singing and dancing at the concerts! I love TUSCQ! I for one, and I'm sure anyone else who reads this excellent debut novel from Nicky, will be awaiting the next one with baited breath. I love her style of writing, and this book was an absolute pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was hooked! September 27, 2012
Format:Paperback
Wow! This book had me hooked, it was so exciting from the very start and I just didn't want to stop reading. Maybe it was the reminder of my own teen band obsessions and the thought of actually living out your teenage fantasies that had gripped me so tightly, whatever it was, it was fun and very enjoyable.

I loved the style of writing, it was easy to read and kept me guessing throughout. I particularly enjoyed the Edinburgh flashbacks, I was eagerly awaiting the next segment that would give me more information on what actually happened there.

I liked all the characters, even the ones that weren't particularly likeable, I just felt that they all had something interesting to offer me as a reader.

There were some really funny parts to this story, disaster certainly seemed to follow Sophie around and that provided many comical moments that had me laughing out loud. The episode with Tim and the slugs was definitely one of my favourite funny moments in the book , I was crying with laughter whilst reading it - I could picture the scene so well in my head!

As always I tried to predict how things would turn out but there were so many twists and turns that I had to give up, I just couldn't guess which way Sophie was going to go. The ending turned out to be completely unexpected, something I hadn't even thought of, so I wouldn't have predicted correctly anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions of the places Sophie visited, they were very well written and it gave me a sense of actually being there with her.

This is an exciting, fun story that captivated me from start to finish, I simply can't wait to read the second story in the trilogy to find out what happens next for Sophie.
