4.0 out of 5 stars For girls who are young at heart
This book is about a young girl who is not quite ready to grow up, who often feels misunderstood and who struggles to "fit in" with her seemingly fickle and shallow peers. The author does a great job of demonstrating the positives of having a "child-like" attitude and creative nature. This book would be great for all young girls between the ages of 12 and 14 who find the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the book you think it is
This is NOT Sophie's World: A novel about the history of philosophy. THAT book is fantastic. This book isn't it.

A Kid's Review
If or if not you are a Christian, read this book! It is about a young girl, Sophie, who dreams up her own little worlds, & she has NO friends. Her parents get mad because she gets a lot of C's & D's on her Report Card! They won't let her dream during class & on and on. Then, she makes a friend that likes to dream to! They help each other out The whole year! They stay clear of Corn Pops & Fruit Loops! They make their own club, the Corn Flakes!

This is book strong with friends forever!

I am so glad that I found this book. It is well written and not at all overdone. Nancy Rue really shows girls how to get help through prayer as Sophie (6th grade) has to wade through social turmoil and finally begins to slow down and pray in the midst of it all(with the help of a counselor). I like the message and I like the way it is presented. Very appropriate for 8 and up.

A Kid's Review
I loved this book. I also like Nancy Rue's other books too. She does a really good job of getting you interested and keeping you that way until the end. Can't wait to read more of this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Fun, and Inspirational Series for Tweens, February 7, 2011
This review is from: Sophie's World (Kindle Edition)
The Sophie series is a great set of books for tweens who are looking for books to read that stay away from mature content, but are well written and exciting to read. This first book is a great kickoff.

Sophie is a dreamer with a big imagination. She loves to make up stories and imagine herself in them. Even these little side stories are well written and have good plots. Throughout the book, Sophie struggles with her daydreaming, low grades in school, being teased by the popular kids, and wanting a friend to share her adventures with.

Like all of Nancy Rue's works, this book has a developed plot and is extremely well written. I definetly reccomend this entire series for all tween and even teen girls

A nice series for young girls. It is a Christian based book, but honestly, you would never know it. I think some parents may want to see more Christianity represented, however, it was still a very good read and I think it would appeal to most girls in it's target age group.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice characters, well-drawn lessons, December 16, 2010

This review is from: Sophie's World (Kindle Edition)
Sophie's on a class trip to Colonial Williamsburg, and she's in the loser group, which is sad, because she's a highly imaginative girl with an eagerness to learn and an attention to detail that puts all her class-mates to shame. Sophie knows there were French people in Williamsburg. Sophie imagines she is French. Then she gets lost and prays to find a friend.

Sophie's World is a place where imagination is imagined and reality is all too often boring. But there's nothing wrong with Sophie, whatever her parents and teachers might think. And when she meets the answer to her prayer, the possibilities are endless. I love these kids!

"One of the main reasons grown-ups have so many problems is because they've forgotten how to play." What a wonderful line. What a telling truth. But Sophie's World is full of play. Of course, I like my dreams written down on the page while Sophie prefers to see. But that's okay. Fiona's input will bring a smile to any child and parent reading this book. And the spirituality is nicely convincing with telling descriptions of how Jesus works and the difference between imagination and faith.

As Sophie/Antionette negotiates the minefields of Independence, family and school, both reader and character have wonderful lessons to learn--and not just from the delightful glossary that ends the book. For anyone with Christian girls, with concerns about bullying, shyness or friendship, or just looking for a good book with great vocabulary for a young girl to read, Sophie's World is a wonderful choice and highly recommended.

Disclosure: This isn't the more famous history of philosophy book, which I loved, but it's a fun tale and I was lucky enough to purchase it while it was still free on Kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, September 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Sophie's World (Kindle Edition)
Sophie's a creative soul living with a family of doers. They love each other, but they never seem to be on the same page.

Her world starts to change when her family decides it is time for therapy, and a new girl arrives who wants to be her friend.

I took a star away because of the ending. I know it's a series, and I liked that her relationship with Maggie was still up in the air by the end of the book. Maggie did have good reason for not trusting Sophie. But I felt like Sophie's relationship with her father was such an important part of this book that it should have at least been resolved some in this book instead of leaving it hanging for future books.

It is a Christian book with Christian themes, but I never felt like it was too preachy.
