Thisbe has a lovely warm sensuous voice which does justice both to standards and original material. have a listen, you'll be glad you did.

This would be good background music for a small dinner party or just curling up with a good bottle of wine.

I first stumbled across Ms. Vos when I saw a short video of her singing Frim Fram Sauce, live at The Cicada Club in Los Angeles. I immediately purchased this album, and that is when I discovered that fully half of the tracks are originals.

When your inaugural album contains some of the best standards and you also include an equal amount of your own work it says one of two things: you are arrogant or you are THAT good. My personal opinion is Ms. Vos is THAT good, and not only can she sing, but her compositions are superb. If they get wide enough dissemination, perhaps her own work will be tomorrow's standards.

Her singing style is hard to pin down, because she manages to tailor her voice to the spirit and intent of each song. In that respect she is a chameleon, but I did hear touches of Sarah Vaughan, Anita O'Day and, surprisingly, some Maria Muldaur in her voice.

Not only is she an artist in her own right, as well as a composer, but her choice of musicians to back her on this album is perfect. I will not pretend to know much about them, but they were perfect on every track. The line-up is: Gary Matsumoto and Larry Flahivedrummer on piano, George Harper on saxophone, Henry Franklin on bass, Nolan Shaheed on trumpet, Geoff Nudell on clarinet and Donald Dean on drums.

I am going to focus more on the original compositions, so my review is not going to follow the track sequence, but, instead, will divide the album into originals and standards.

House of Make Believe starts out with a piano intro that reminds me of Bill Evans' mountain brook sound that Miles Davis wanted on Kind of Blue. The dominant instruments backing Thisbe are piano and saxophone, and the musicians accentuate her sultry rendition. I could hear a touch of Maria Muldaur.

Sophistication is the quality of refinement -- displaying good taste, wisdom and subtlety... is how Wikipedia defines it.

Just joining Facebook not to long ago, I truly did not know the "ins and outs" of it all. I was getting quite annoyed by the ads that would appear on the right of the page "suggesting" [based on my musical likes] I should listen to...

Thisbe was one of those suggestions.

Thinking, but not realizing that it wasn't an ad trying to sell me something, I "clicked" on the link anyway and boy...I WAS sold!

She had several samples on her F.B. page and I gotta tell you...I fell in love with her Voice! It reminds me of the old school divas of jazz but yet, slightly softer and more refined.

I am "old school" and have to have the physical CD in my hand. I also am very diverse in my musical tastes and have a "decent sized" CD collection, so I rarely pay full price for anything I buy to keep. But when she announced that her first CD was being sent off to be pressed, I GLADLY pre-ordered it.

This CD IS totally outstanding! This CD truly has been played over and over again and I have no choice BUT to give her the full five star rating!

Whether it is a jazz standard or an original song, she emanates a sensual, sensuous, and sophisticated performance and style all of her own. Thisbe's name WILL join that long list of jazz divas someday!

I am SO very glad I found her, and you will be as well!

Oddly enough, it was a Facebook add that drew my attention to this Artist and after checking out her FB page, I liked what I heard enough to download the whole album. I wouldn't say I'm an expert with this genre of music, but I know what I like. Perhaps another way to put it, if someone can attract a person who normally doesn't listen to jazz, then you have some talent. I love TBV's voice, the session musicians she recorded with and I think she may draw me away from another artist I like and listen to: Diana Krall.

I'm not going to waste time by trying to go into detail about why I love this album because it's difficult for me to do so. However, I suggest you listen and make up your mind. :)

I love Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall and sophisticated Jazz Music that you can understand. I love this CD! the performer has a great voice and the instrumentation is top quality. The CD has a very comprehensive booklet where you can see a bio for all the musicians, these guys average 30 years of experience! and it shows! Many other Jazz CDs are compilations and repetitions of older songs, this CD contains many completely new songs! however they sound just as if they were written in the 1940s, but they sound awesome!

If you are looking for classy, sophisticated uplifting Jazz standards with a meaning then you will enjoy this CD as much as I have. I am also "old fashion" in the sense that I prefer the actual physical CD rather than the download. The physical CD is extremely well made, no costs spared there and as I said, the booklet is very informative.

It is always a pleasure to discover a new voice in the Music World. The last one I discovered and have since followed, was Nora Jones. Now I have discovered Thisbe Vos, and she has a great voice that sells the music she sings. She would be right at home fronting a 1940's Big Band. Her vocal range is superb. She is also an excellent song writer, having written half of the songs on this album. She is from Holland, a country that reveres America's jazz heritage, and her original compositions reflect this. Her covers of such Standards as "Our Love is Here To Stay" and "A Foggy Day (In London Town)" show a real respect for the lyrics. This is an excellent album that I have listened to many times. It has become my new favorite, and I am looking forward to her new album that is due out soon.
