5.0 out of 5 stars i never would have believed that.....
there would be any sort of variety in the world of Hip Hop anymore. Everything sounded so monotone, so blase, i was almost fed up with the whole genre. Luckily for me, my girlfirend's friend, kathy told us about her boyfriends group, The Visionaries. After chiding her for awhile, i decided to buy thier first album; you know, support the cause and all. And why not...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so good
I did not like this album at all. Repetitive beats are the main beef I have with it. Every track is like the one before it. There is no variety. This is especially bad because I did not like the beats to begin with, so hearing them over and over is not cool. The lyrics aren't terrible, but they're just average. I don't particularly care for the delivery or the content...

there would be any sort of variety in the world of Hip Hop anymore. Everything sounded so monotone, so blase, i was almost fed up with the whole genre. Luckily for me, my girlfirend's friend, kathy told us about her boyfriends group, The Visionaries. After chiding her for awhile, i decided to buy thier first album; you know, support the cause and all. And why not? I already bought a slew of below average Rap Cd's before. Galleries was definately different, and (finally) it was something new that i could get into. The new album Sophmore Jinx totally blew my mind with Creative abstract lyrics covering a multitude of topics. Let me put it to you this way: my friends who only listen to ganster rap and the (dare i say it) the hot boyz could get into their ingenious rhythm. Thank you, Visionaries for a much needed shot in the arm into a not dead, but a very sick body of hip hop

Visionaries always bringing just a little more to the table than the average bums who grab mics and think there dope and demand respect when no efforts to put in work for the cause, Simply this albums got ill tracks, from start to finish, with conscience rhymes and ill production. if you like this also peep LEXICON, SUBTITLE, BLAK FOREST, DILATED PEOPLES and more underground stuff from LA's finest... PEACE 2000 dont forget CUT-n-PASTE a sk8board vid with underground hip hop tracks from LA MC's 4 info>>> vcrproductions@hotmail.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Original Visions, April 20, 2000
This review is from: Sophomore Jinx (Audio CD)
After an album like Galleries, I never thought these amazing MC's would be able to create a follow-up album just as good as the old one. I was wrong, because Visionaries are back with an even better album, and they are letting everyone know what the original elements of hip hop are. Sophmore Jinx couldnt be a more perfect name for the album, because they have defenitely created an absolute sophmore jinx.

This is especially bad because I did not like the beats to begin with, so hearing them over and over is not cool. The lyrics aren't terrible, but they're just average. I don't particularly care for the delivery or the content. Too much self-righteousness in this album for me. There seems to be an abundance of preaching in this album. I've definitely heard better records than this one. Evidently, I am the only person who didn't like this album. The other reviews praise it highly, but this is puzzling to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars ...Things 'll never be the same, February 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Sophomore Jinx (Audio CD)
This album is for those in need of something new and positive. It deals with politics, religion, and hip-hop culture. Unlike other "positive", acts this family of five mc's and one DJ never contradict from track to track. "Indepedent with major intentions" -LMNO. It only comes short in beats. Most are awesome -ranging from the melancholic to the body-rocking. Only a couple of tracks don't hit because they sound too basic, with old drum loops. No cameos (other than production by beatjunkie-members and others). Support the cause.

4.0 out of 5 stars Those Who Don't Understand, June 4, 2005
This review is from: Sophomore Jinx (Audio CD)
Visionaries are Los Angeles Underground Hip-Hop Heroes. They've been together for the past 10 years touring the world independently releasing records on their self-owned label, Up Above Records, which now distributes ALL of Jurassic 5 vinyl worldwide, Living Legends vinyl worldwide, amongst signing respected artists Kev Brown, DJ Numark of Jurassic 5, and releasing solo albums from Visionaries members LMNO, SonGodSuns aka 2Mex, Writer's Block, KeyKool & Rhettmatic (Beat Junkies).

Visionaries stand for love, truth and humanity, and their cult-type following has amassed due to their positive outlook, work ethic and talents. They've toured with Jurassic 5, Xzibit, and performed at concerts opening for Linkin Park, Common, Wu-Tang Clan, Mos Def...to name a few.

So regardless of some internet geeks self-righteous criticism...please, if you LOVE hip-hop, and want to hear music made for the non-brainwashed, listen to the Visionaries catalog, including this one.

first album: Visionaries "Galleries" (UP ABOVE RECORDS)
2nd album: Visionaries "Sophomore Jinx" (UP ABOVE RECORDS)
