5.0 out of 5 stars If you ever buy one album...., June 19, 2001

BUY THIS ALBUM!!! If you love thought provoking, soul searching, emotional music, this album is for you. If you love innovation and creativity, this album is for you. If you love just good ole music to rock out to, this album is for you. Grandaddy is a combination of everything that is great in music. Thoughtful lyrics, beautiful melodies....these guys have it all. They're the best thing to come out of Modesto CA since George Lucas. This album is by far their greatest work. This box set is even better because you get several songs that were previously only available on singles. "Our dying brains" is perhaps one of my all time favorite songs. Every time I hear this album I hear something new that I love. Grandaddy can be compared to everyone from Radiohead to Sparklehorse but the fact remains, their are very much their own unique animal with a unique sound worth giving a little extra attention. If you're one of those people who complains about there not being any good music these days, buy this album and I think you'll be singing a different tune - a Grandaddy tune.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully surreal, October 12, 2001

This CD is beautiful. Even my 8 year old son enjoys "The Crystal Lake". Jed the Humanoid is a very moving song, even though it's about (of all things) a robot. I like the link to the second song about Jed's poems. Great , just great. I had a chance to see Grandaddy here in Atlanta and I was unable to make it to the show. I hope they can make it back to the Atlanta area soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review BONUS, December 10, 2002

This version of Software Slump comes with The Frosty Plate EP bonus disc, which I bought the second time I purchased the Slump album because I wanted to share the love. Basically this EP is truly worth shelling out the extra cash for this album, one of my favorite songs- Our Dying Brains (available as free download on Amazon[.com] as I have seen) is found here and definitely worth it alone. The other songs are on or off, but good nonetheless. Don't miss out on the EP if you get this album!!
