Keep 'em coming!,

This review is from: The Soprano Wore Falsettos : A Liturgical Mystery (Paperback)
I now have read all four books by this author, and I think each one is funnier than the last! I am typically not a mystery reader, but a friend gave this series to me as a gift. The Soprano includes a mystery, indeed, but the story surrounding it is so hysterical that there were times I laughed so hard that I cried. I don't want to give any of the outrageous moments away, but I recommend this book to anyone who needs a pick-me-up or wants a fun, easy read.

For a small but devoted audience,
This review is from: The Soprano Wore Falsettos : A Liturgical Mystery (Paperback)
If you are Episcopalian, a hard-boiled detective novel reader, an organist, or a choir member, these books are for you. They are laugh out loud, tongue in cheek, over the top humor.

Do your self a favor and don't miss one book in this (I HOPE) very long and successful series. We have a MASTER SATIRIST in our midst. Don't miss the pirate communion or the Soprano who has a REAL SECRET. As in other books in this series, NOTHING IS SACRED! We only need Mel Brooks to buy the film rights.

I am finishing the eighth and just ordered the up-coming # nine. If you are a Protestant Christian, active in your local church so you know the workings of congregational led parishes and have any experience with the music (I have been in church choirs for ever) AND have a sense of humor that can appreciate off-the-wall stuff, then these are for you. The mystery is only an adjunct to what is an on-going tale of folks in a small town church. This is for me one of the best series of just plain entertaining stories about people that I gotten to know, their foibles and crazy antics, with a mystery that is an added attraction.
If you are looking for some light-hearted entertainment in the so-called mystery genre and have an open mind these are for you. Keep it going Mark!!

These books by Mark Schweizer are an absolute delight - fun and well-written. I found people staring at me on the subway when I would periodically burst out laughing, lol. If you're a church musician (of any denomination) and a mystery lover, you MUST read these!!!

The Soprano Wore Falsettos is just one of a series of books by Mark Schweitzer that can make your sides hurt from laughing. I am an Episcopalian from a small town and these books and their characters really hit home. I would highly recommend these books if you are looking for a laugh and a little mystery (someone is always dying in the church).

If you even have a tiny sense of humor, read this book - better yet, the entire series. It is smart and funny, a great departure from the ordinary.

You don't have to be Episcopalian - but it helps,

I worry that non Episcopalians will "get it".
I suppose that is me being an Episcopalian snob, though I am so low church that I cannot see how this would be so. See! Low church is an inside the loop designation in the EC (Episcopal Church). I think there is still much to laugh about. I laughed at Miss Julia's Presbyterian problems with what I hope is good humor. I still recall fondly remember , Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? (Roman Catholic). I do hope all who read these reviews get book #1 and start reading away. |
