Sweet, sexy fun!,
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
OHOHOHOHOHO! Sorcerer Hunters is one of the most underlooked titles in the world of anime and manga. Perhaps it's the edgy, borderline-hentai humor that keeps it from being a major "pop hit" -- but it's also that same humor that attracts so many fans. The central character, Carrot Glace, may not be the prettiest boy in anime, but his unforgettable personality makes him the ideal protagonist for any story. What's not to like (or hate) about a hapless pervert who has just one special skill? Carrot's supporting cast is equally memorable. There's Tira, whose normally demure appearance belies her S&M fetish; Marron, Carrot's smooth-talking mystic brother; Chocolat, the only girl on the entire Spooner Continent who actually wants Carrot -- even though Carrot hates her! -- and Gateau, the exhibitionist guy who seems to be looking for love in ALL the places, wrong or right. Although they may seem like a crackpot bunch, these folks are the only ones capable of standing up to the evil sorcerers! And they win every time, of course ... Plot-wise, Sorcerer Hunters isn't anything terribly unique. It's the usual beat-the-bad-guy story, but with a humorous twist often so lacking in other fantasy tales. The artwork and storytelling seems a little confused at times, but if you can get through the fight scenes, the aftermath between Carrot and Tira in each chapter is usually a great finishing laugh. All in all, a highly entertaining book.

Funniest Manga that I ever read!,
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I just read this manga and it is hilarious! I was cracking up throughout the whole thing! Some of the parts may be a little inapropriate for kidss under he age of 10, but the rest of it is great! The story is about three people who are sent from the "Big Mama" (their master, I guess)to go hunt sourcerers. There is Carrot, he is a little weird but REALLY funny. He can absorb magic and then he turns into a really powerfull monster. Then there is Marron, the handsome one who is Carrot's little brother. He gets obsessed when anyone huts his little brother and then he has to hurt the person who hurt his brother. Tira is the one who wears big glasses and a cape. when she has to hur a bad guy, then she throws off her cape and glasses, revealing a weird bathing suit outfit and a whip. then she defeats the soucerer and his/her monster. Through this entire book, the threesome go through really funny adventures and keep ypu laughing the whole time!

YOU MUST BY THIS MANGA!!,

This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
I love this manga! One of my best friends got me it for christmas. I thank her almost everyday. This is a really great fantasy manga that will appeal to lots of people. Of course, keep it out of the hands of children! It can be quite adult at times. My favorite character would for sure be Marron Glace. He is a mysterious man who uses the powers of Eastern magic. He is very hot as well ^_^( hes the guy on the cover with the long black hair!). The plot isnt the most creative thing in the word, but the manga is just SO FUNNY! the crazy characters and humor in this manga will most definitely make up for a slightly weak plot. Also, the art in this manga is really great. Lots of chibi moments which are really funny, and its just all around pretty ^_^. Anyways, I have to go, and you have to buy this manga! And i love Amazon cause everything is cheaper! So buy it off Amazon! (im sure the creators are just loving me now ^_^). I gotta go, so Sayonara!

hilarious parody!,

This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Having watched the entire anime series, i was excited when my friend picked up this manga, since the anime is supposed to be more..um..tame. ^^; Several people have commented on the generic plot, but i would like to point out that this is done on purpose. This is anime/manga making fun of itself. And done really well. It takes all the usual stuff--from a young man and friends saving the world to the more taboo hentai/shounenai themes--and tosses them all together in a wonderfully ridiculous way. You can't help but fall in love with the characters and their eccentricities! It's so funny. Marron and Milfy are my faves. Marron is smart and sweet (and gorgeous!) but dangerous if you mess with his brother. Milfy, whom I won't tell you about because you're in for a big, hilarious surprise, might not be in this volume, maybe the next. can't remember... But no worries. If you read this one, you'll definitely read the next one! I love Bakuretsu (Sorcerer) Hunters!

Marron RULES!,

This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Ok, ok ... It's obvious I'm a Marron fan. (Hee-hee ... It's hard NOT to be one!) But that fact proves that I liked this manga! So let me tell you why. It's funny! I'm an upperclassman in High School and I made the regrettable mistake of bringing this book to class ... Ahem, let's just say I'll be the only one remembered for laughing during a lecture on Maslow's hierarchy of needs ... But ah, I digress. Back to the review! It was so hilarious (in a a PG-15 rated kind of way) that it was a really hard task to stop laughing! (Poor Carrot ... Always getting wacked by Tira's mallet ...) The story itself is amusing. The plot revolves around three main characters, namely Carrot, Marron, and Tira. These three are the Sorcerer Hunters, employed by various Parsoners (people with no magic) to liberate them from sorcerers (people with magic and upside-down triangles on their foreheads ... hurh?). Anyway, their boss, Big Mama (yes, that's her name) is the one to send them on their missions. The first volume is divided into six "chapters," if you will. In "Enter the Sorcerer Hunters," Carrot Glase, a skirt-chasing zoanthropist (zoanthropy is his power), Marron Glase (his GORGEOUS younger brother), and Tira Misu (the Carrot-tamer) are on their first mission, helping out a girl named Leila Barton and attempting the figure out the mystery behind where the "noble" Count Regnasis has sent the Parsoners' daughters and why they haven't contacted their families. (Can't tell you the end.) In "The Magic Flower Rod," they are trying to discover who is behind the many Parsoner deaths in Colintos City. There, they also try to help the cowardly Brinks Kerny, who allowed his girlfriend to play detective and spy on a suspect. In "Dark Water," Parts 1 and 2, they try to stop a crazy guy who's trying to "rescue" his sister, Rin (who ironically asked for the Sorcerer Hunters' help to rescue her brother). Carrot is lured away by a hot babe in "Pretty Flowers Also have Thorns," a chapter where Tira faces another whip-wielding lady like herself. "The Terror of the Crystal Magicians" is about Sorcerers that capture Parsoners into magical crystals by using their fears against them. In this chapter, our three main characters are joined by two other sorcerer hunters, Gateau Mocha and Chocolat Misu (Tira's sister, a little too nude for her own good--but, a girl that Carrot DOESN'T want to sleep with?!) But it's only Part 1, so you have to get the second volume to see how that story ends! The translation was really good (Mixx, I applaude you!) and there were no spelling errors I could find, so if grammar is THAT important to you, you have nothing to worry about with this manga. Ok, if you're not bored out of your mind by my weird, repetitive summaries, let me finally tell you that not only is the this manga funny and interesting, but it's also skillfully and beautifully illustrated by Satoru Akahori and Ray Omishi. If you don't buy for its humorous story, at least get it for the artwork! If you buy this manga, you won't be unsatisfied. (However, mind that there is adult humor and some nudity, so if you're under 15, maybe you should wait awhile before getting it ...) Just learn something from my experience and don't bring it to class! P.S. When you buy this book, you'll have to agree: Marron RULES!!!

Sword & Sorcery(with S&M!),
By
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
There are plenty of times when the manga is better than the anime, and Sorcerer Hunters is a shining example of this. Satori Akahori(creator of Saber Marionette J)wrote this, and it was illustrated by his occasional partner Rei Omishi. This original post-apocalyptic fantasy adventure was often considered an hentai because of its joking use of S&M.
Set in the mystical realm of the Spooner Continent, several teams known as Sorcerer Hunters are sent out by the goddess figure of Big Mama to stop evil magic-users from tormenting poor citizens. The main team involved in this are the skirt-chasing Carrot and his girlish brother Marron, along with the large spectacles-wearing Tira. They are later joined regularly by Tira's older sister Chocolate(who totally lusts over Carrot much to his shagrin), and the beefcake Gateau. During the first part of the series, they tangle with the diabolical "sorcerer doctor", Sacher Torte, and his minions, one of which is Gateau's sistert Eclair. They actually go through a large story arc afterwards which acts as a prequal with Carrot's parents when they were Sorcerer Hunters. This leads into the final arc where Big Mama's brother Charlotte returns froms the dead, and plans to use Carrot's god of destruction that lies within him to bring about a new apocalypse. The Sorcerer Hunters manga has some really great artwork by Omishi which really carries the artwork flowingly from page-to-page. Akahori's writing is featured better in the manga than in the original anime TV series based on this. The OVA series sequal followed by the manga a little better, but your best choice is the manga. Tokyo Pop for a while released this in their Mixxzine(and then later Tokyo Pop)magazine, and then later in graphic novel, at first in regular Americanized printing as well as in their "Authentic Format".

If you liked the anime version, you'll love the manga!,
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
For those who don't know about "Sorcerer Hunters", it's a series which focuses on a continer named "spooner", where the population is divided between sorcerers and serfs (common people). Since most sorcerers take advantage of their powers to tyrannize serfs, there are certain groups of people called "sorcerer hunters", who hunt down the said evil sorceres and kill them for a certain payment. The good thing about the story is that it knows how to combine serious moments (in battle, for example) with irreverent commedy (to begin with, the sorcerer hunters here are: two perverts, two girls into S&M bondage and an androginous sorceret); besides, the drawing is simply excellent (trough notabily influenced by CLAMP in the enemies design).

This manga has everything in it!,
By
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This is most likely the coolest manga I've encountered. The plot is simple yet intriguing, and the characters themselves are so different from each other but each has something that makes you love them. Like, Carrot(the main chara) is a pervert, but the way he does it is hilarious. The way Chocolat always smothers Carrot and the way Tira whacks Carrot with the mallot is enjoyable, though it gets a bit annoying. How Gateau is always showing off is funny cause he never gets any reaction! And Marron...well, what's there not to like? He's powerful, gorgeous, well-mannered, but at first I couldn't believe he was Carrot's YOUNGER brother. This manga has it all-comedy (LOTS of it), cool action scenes, slight romance (hee hee), and compassion between the characters in a touching way. This is probably for people 13 and up, but who cares? It kicks!

The Sorcerer Hunters are here!,
This review is from: Sorcerer Hunters, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
At long last! For those of us who fell for Carrot and the gang through the Japanese anime (cartoon), but could never find the serialized translation of the manga (comic), the original story is now available in English translation in graphic novel form. This is just volume one of a much longer story, so it serves mainly to lay the groundwork for the characters and their relationships. And who are these young ones who hunt no-good sorcerers out to oppress the common people? Skirt-chasing Carrot Glace and his beautiful but serious younger brother Marron, who's trained in Eastern magic, for starters. Following is muscle-bound Gateau Mocha, whose brawn is his shield against evil magic, and the Misu sisters Tira and Chocolate, who, when not turning into dominatrix bombshells to fight sorcerers, are turning into dominatrix bombshells to keep Carrot from other women. Yup, this isn't Sailor Moon, so you may prefer to save this for the older kids. What's not to love? Heroes named after food, spots of exhibitionism, spells cast everywhere, moments of romantic angst ... Sorcerer Hunters runs the gamut from misty-eyed drama to Benny Hill-esque comedy. The only fly in the ointment for me is sometimes it's hard to tell what's going on in the artwork. Otherwise, if you're looking for a spoonful of naughty laughs mixed in serious entertaintment, this is the manga for you.
