3.0 out of 5 stars Recommended For the Two Player Mode, September 6, 2007

= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Sorcerer's Maze (Video Game)
This game is like Arakanoid on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Some of the levels are even exactly the same. Sorcerer's Maze isn't an RPG, and you can finish the 100 levels of the main game in about two and half hours.

As far as controls go, it is inferior to the original Arakanoid. No matter how you slice the ball, it is extremely hard to change the angle it bounces off of the paddle at. Additionally, even at the fastest paddle speed, I found my paddle couldn't keep up with the speed of the ball as speed increased, a problem I never had with the NES Arakanoid attachment.

The good stuff about this game are the power ups, which are fun and spectacular. Maze makes up for lack of finesse with power, like making the ball take up 1/2 the screen, the thousand split, and laser bombs. This really makes the two player mode shine, and provides you a great reason to purchase the game. The main story isn't great, but the two player mode is amazing if you have a friend who likes this type of game. It's a split screen view, sort of like two-player puzzle fighter tetris, with interesting interactions between players.

3.0 out of 5 stars Arkanoid style game, with one big problem, July 2, 2007

This review is from: Sorcerer's Maze (Video Game)
This game is in the style of Arkanoid and Breakout, and has good gameplay with acceptable PS1 graphics. It has a nice gimmick by which you can buy power-ups at the beginning of a level if you did well on the previous level. There are 10 "worlds" with 10 levels. Unfortunately, the game does not allow you to save your progress -- a major flaw. It's slightly compensated by the fact that you always have access to the first level of all the worlds, so you get some variety. It also has a 2-player version which is fun, and it's cheap enough that it's a good value for those who like this sort of game.
