Great Plot Great Characters,
This review is from: The Sorceress Of Belmair (World of Hetar) (Perfect Paperback)
Bertrice Small comes up with a great plot, the young women of Belmair are disappearing from the planet. The heroine and hero love each other enough that when the heroine herself disappears their love endures this separation and they both must suffer the crafty plot of another to replace their true love. The characters are interesting and worthy of your attention and the villians are relentless in their schemes. The outcome is cleverly resolved and Bertrice Small holds your attention to the end. You don't want this book to end. Great story with a twist and with a rather surprise ending. Well done.

I've been a big fan of Bertrice Small since her first book and continue to be amazed at her wonderful stories! This one follows the Hetar series and I just loved it. Read it in a day because the story was compelling. She definitely is the best historical/fantasy/romance writer of our generation!
BRAVA!!!

fantastic romantic fantasy mystery,
This review is from: The Sorceress Of Belmair (World of Hetar) (Perfect Paperback)
Being the offspring of two extremely powerful parents especially his mother Lara, the Domina of Hetar, Dillon is not surprisingly a very potent magic practitioner. He also understands his duty when the dragon of Belmair directs him to marry headstrong but beautiful mage Princess Cinnia; after that he is to rule Belmair.
Dillon and Cinnia prove much attuned to one another especially in the bedroom and even when they work royal dealings. Dillon uncovers a strange but powerful connection between Belmair and Hetar that concerns him, but not as much as the sudden serial disappearance of young women. The newlyweds diligently investigate in order to prevent any more vanishings, hopefully rescue the ladies, and stop the unknown culprit before further harm comes to the kingdom. The latest World of Hetar tale (see THE DISTANT LORD, A DISTANT TOMORROW and LARA) is a fantastic romantic fantasy mystery as Bertrice Small shows her skills by effortlessly combining the genres. The amateur sleuth investigation into a world filled with magic strengthens the already robust passionate ties between the lead couple. Fans of the series will especially appreciate this excellent entry as murder, love, and magic mix perfectly together by master sorceress Ms. Small. Harriet Klausner

I love a good romance with fantasy, I have read the series of the World of Hetar and loved the actual faery-ness of it all. Bertrice always keeps my attention, sometimes the love making can be too much but she always has another great idea with magic, excitement and suspense. Love her forever.....

Very Nice Read,

This review is from: The Sorceress Of Belmair (World of Hetar) (Perfect Paperback)
The story of Hetar has been a wonderful forray in to the mystical. Although, much preferring Small's historical genius, I have fallen in love with Lara. I felt that this book was perhanps more prepatory for the next than the first books? To me the devotion of an entire book to one of her offspring, when Lara's destiny is yet to unforld seemed out of place. Unlike other series of Ms. Small's books, the "Matriarch" was pushed to the side and her offspring highlighted before she had completed her "destiny." If this is an intregal book of information, I think it would have been better to incorporate this story line in with that of Lara's a little more evenly. However.... it stands by itself and is full of wonderous characters, beautiful romances accross races, (species?) and set in a world of wonder and awe. I was captivated by the new characters and the development of her brother in the story line. I would definitey suggest this book to others as a must read. Keep on Bertrice Small! You surely are the Queen of romance!

I hope there is a good reason for the introduction of a new world...,

I am a huge fan of Bertrice Small and the World of Hetar. The first 3 books of the series are well-written, and you don't want to put the book down until you finish the whole thing! However, I am really disappointed with the newest addition to the Hetar series. It's definitely not the best out of the 4.
Dillon and Cinnia's "love" was undeveloped and seemed unbelievable. An entire world was introduced without having much development. I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters or why the women were disappearing. The 2 things I found fascinating were the Yafir and the relationship between Nidhug and Cirillo. I'm sure this book will be relevant to the next addition, but it didn't seem like much progressed. We find out a surprising bit of news that doesn't really faze the characters other than Lara. Things that would have made for great reading are swept neatly under the rug. And the ending just dropped off. I actually reread the last chapter twice just to make sure it was in fact the ending.

I loved this story along with all of the other Hecter books so far. I have 2 more to go and I hate to see them end. I wish I knew of more stories like this one. Bertrice Small is a master story teller. I think I like this series better than the Skye O'Malley series. I don't understand why this particular book is so rare and $$$. I am glad to have it but you can find it in the library if needed. I would recommend this book along with the others if you like the fantasy world of dragons, fairy folk, and more.

The 6 books of the World of Hetar are one of her best I think in a long time. The only thing I don't undersand was why this particular book cost so much it was book four of the six. All the rest were $10.00. Why was this book so hard to get? Also why did it reach such a high price for a book that was only 13.95. Hard cover was almost $150.00 and paper back was $60.00.

The Sorceress of Belmair is a disappointing read. The plot has potential as a romantic fantasy, but the story fails due to poor writing. The characters are one-dimensional and their dialogue is absurdly awkward. Little attempt is made to enliven the novel through the use of figurative language such as simile, metaphor, personification, etc. Thus, the writing style is dull and lifeless. The graphic sex scenes are crudely detailed with modern slang and profanities. I have read the other novels in the World of Hetar series, and each one is progressively worse. |
