4.0 out of 5 stars good stunt action, August 21, 2008
This review is from: Sorceress [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I enjoyed this movie mainly for Leigh and Lynette Harris' action scenes, which they perform very well. There are some good sequences with pro-wrestling-type moves, and the stars do most of their own stunts. Very interesting compared to the run of the mill in this or in any action movie genre. So I give Sorceress 4 stars, even though in other aspects it is mediocre. Hopefully it will be released on DVD someday.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Sorcery that's not quiet kitsch, January 31, 2005

There are bad films, there are films so bad that they're good and there are films that fall between the two.

The Sorceress falls between the two. With typical Roger Coreman style he managed to slip this into cinemas just before Conan and so caught the whole swords and sorcery wave.

Okay do you want the plot? Well all 80s sword and sorcery had the same plot rightful heir escapes death comes back and kicks usurpers arse.

In this case the Heir is actually Playboy playmates the Harris Twins. Who look nice take their clothes off (A LOT) simulate sex and kick people. Nothing wrong with that; however; someone very foolishly gave them lines.

The acting in the film is uniformly bad and over the top so it's unfair to single (double?) out the twins but as they get more lines than anyone else you notice it more.

Sets and effects vary from cheap to embarrasing and the whole thing has a knocked together quick to exploit the rush feel about it (which it was (see also Carnesaur)).

Watching it now I actually find it very silly and kind of funny. If like Barbarella or Flesh Gordon more of the humour was deliberate it might deserve a certain ironic fame sadly it was woefully straight laced about it all and so hands in the balance between plain bad and classically must have bad.

If you're a fan of sword and sorcery, bad movies and naked playmates then this might be for you. If however your a fan of only one of those factors I'd give this a miss if you fall into 2 camps flip a coin or somethign just remember I did say it was bad

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh so not good!, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Sorceress [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The only real problem with this movie is that nothing much ever happens, and when something does actually happen, the action is so stilted and poorly executed that it never comes close to being entertaining/exciting/interesting etc. Had to watch this on fast-forward and still found it boring. Not even close to being a classic. It's too easy to trash B-movies (and I'm a fan of some of the worst the world has to offer), but this one really tried my patience. Just because something is rare or out-of-print doesn't mean it should be upped to classic status. Hell with this, I'd like to piss in the directors mouth.
