Seleshe Demassae and the children from local villages bring this CD alive! Absolutely a MUST have for anyone with Ethiopian children or an interest in Ethiopian culture. I enjoy it as much as my kids do....

This CD is high-quality and full of songs that Ethiopian adults and children will recognize. Our adopted Ethiopian children (ages 8 & 9) just love this CD- they grew up singing these songs! It's pricey, but definately worth it. The booklet included in the CD has a great deal of cultural information, which I found very interesting.

Touchstone for an Ethiopian Child,

I bought this for a little boy adopted from Ethiopia. He is the son of one of my best friends (also Ethiopian), and I traveled with her to fetch him. She is doing her best to help him retain his understanding and speaking of Farsi, which began fading rapidly when the US became his home. This CD is helping, and he loves it, asking for it to be played on his ride to and from pre-K.

This is a must-have if you are trying to raise culturally aware children, and/or if you are a parent of a young child of Ethiopian decent. The songs are catching and there is great diversity of beats. The only drawback is that it's not the most well-produced album. But for what it is (and this seems to be the only one of its kind), it's a great addition to your music collection.
For those looking for songs from other countries, the Putumayo Presents Kids CDs are wonderful as well. AFRICAN DREAMLAND is excellent. I usually steer away from "African" collections, since they tend to perpetuate the view of Africa as being one country, rather than a continent full of diverse countries and cultures. However, the Putumayo series does a great job of labeling songs with their country or culture of origin.

Our two guys, adopted 2 years ago from Ethiopia, have loved this from the instant they heard it. It was an amazing way for them to hear voices, sounds and a familiar language while sharing the music with us. A must-have if you're adopting from Ethiopia. They still love it and ask for it.
