5.0 out of 5 stars Very mature debut..., January 9, 2003

This review is from: Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds (Audio CD)
Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds displays the talent of the band in their early days. This is a very mature release, especially for a debut album. Check out this cd if you are already into Amon Amarth, or simply if you like very heavy, yet melodic, metal. This is an amazing release and a must have for fans of the band.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good, but not like the other albums, August 7, 2000

This really is a great album, but since it is limited to 5 songs only, it kind of hurts it. Nonetheless, the album is good just to hear how they were back then. The song "Mighty Doors of the Spear" happens to be one of their best songs ever! Only recommended if you are a Amon Amarth fanatic like I am or if you are into a solid swedish metal album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still stands as one of my favourite Amon Amarth releases, May 3, 2004

Amon Amarth - Viking metal/black metal/death metal/melodic death metal.....Death metal vocals, Nordic, Pagan lyrics, stunning melodic guitar work and an atmosphere to make Darkthrone seem shallow. Strong words, maybe, but this stands as possibly my favourite AA release. What did they get right here? Look on:

Vocals: The vocals on this cd are perhaps the best Amon Amarths vocalist has ever done, they are painful, emotional and brutal, while still clear enough to make out almost ever word.

Guitars: The guitarists are quite talented and have awesome songwriting skills. They both play very fast and are pretty heavy. One of em plays fantastic lead lines. Overall, nothing very technical but quite fast, chunky and create almost all of the atmosphere. Also the solos are quite fantastic in terms of sound. The guitarists have an awesome tone and when they solo, they choose to play long tremolo notes that are quite emotional.

Bass: The bass is quite audible actually and it's quite good. In terms of composition, the bass usually follows the same pattern of the guitars and works to back it up.

Drums: Perhaps the msot talented member of the group....Ever heard of Opeth? 'Course ya have! Ever heard of their drummer Martin Lopez? Well guess who beats the skins here! Awesome blastbeating, great fills and speed are all showcased on this cd and the others that Lopez plays in AA. I like him way better hear, I think that he's never been able to show his skills off properly at Opeth, as they aren't the fast, furious and demanding type that Amon Amarth are, although Lopez has been praised endlessly by Opeth fans. But then again, I would get praised lots if I played for Opeth, anthing they touch turns to gold. Oh why did he have to leave Amon Amarth?!!! Just remember who found him first.

Production: The production is possitively awesome here, not clear at all and puts in to create that Viking atmosphere. It helps keep the cd sounding brutal as well, a problem with releases such as Versus the World where the production is too clean.

Songs: All the songs are awesome and I think I've already gone through the good aspects of this cd.

Overall, not one thing I dislike about this cd and anyone who took stars off for only having five songs, get out of here!
