Solid effort from HRC,

I've never really been a huge fan of Hot Rod Circuit. I liked some of their songs, like "Irish Car Bomb", but overall their stuff never really impressed me. However, I heard "The Pharmacist" on a new Vagrant comp and was really impressed with it. I picked up "Sorry About Tomorrow" when it came out, and It was really worth it. HRC have put together a cd that never gets dull or boring like I've found in their previous releases. One would say that they've sold out because this cd is more accesable than the other two, but I disagree, I think HRC sounds stronger overall with this new one. They take all of their good qualities from their previous cds, and they work them out to their full extent in this one, and keep the listener interested better than they did in their other cds."The Pharmacist", "Radiation Suit", "Now or Never", "Knees" and "Get What You Get" are my favorites. There's not a sour grape in the bunch here, the whole cd sounds cleaner, and stronger than they ever did before. This is a very strong effort from HRC, and my favorite from them. Pick this one up, you'll be impressed with their progress.

Not as good as their previous releases.....,

but catchy and good in its' own right. It's definitely been popped out, and hasn't escaped the Rites of Vagrant in that regard, and has met the same fate of Saves the Day but the only difference being the fact that Hot Rod Circuit was original in their own right to begin with. They had and continue to have their own sound, which I suppose has hurt them in record sales but helps to distinguish them from the crowd of Lifetime/At the Drive-In/NFG/Braid imitators. Best songs are tracks 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9. If you had to get just one release from Vagrant records over the past year, I'd make it this or 'Your Majesty' by the Anniversary.

I bought this cd when it first came out as a huge HRC fan. Vagrant records also has a quality track record judging from their band roster and their ability to somehow summon up the best of a band. I thought HRC would benefit from much higher production quality as well as the influence of oustanding acts such the Alkaline Trio and Saves the Day surrounding them.. However, owning for the cd for nearly two years with many listens has made realize that the band used to create captiving, listenable hardcore is gone. Nothing about this cd particularly interesting or grabbed me even on the first listen. The disc loses its appeal early as nameless, medtempo pop crowds the speakers. The vocals are more clear, however; the trade off is less compelling melodies and a lack of creativity. Tracks like "the Pharmacist" identify a theme of short, competent, but boring songs. I haven't heard anything more form HRC released this album and I don't think i would shell out 15 bucks again for something I would hear on the radio.

i acquired this cd last summer when i mistakenly borrowed it from a friend. i put it in my discman anyway, and wow -- am i ever glad i did! too meaty and technical to be labeled 'emo', and not quite commercial or superficial enough to be called 'pop', this record builds some bridges between the two without alienating either.some of the hooks are infectious beyond belief, and some of the content is far more deep than you would expect a vagrant artist to ever record. this is a great disc, and certainly one of the most pleasant surprises of 2002.

This is HRC's best work ever PERIOD. Every song on this album is catchy, and meaningful. If you are looking for an amazing album by an underrated band please pick this up.

This is a very solid album, the first track gets ya in the heart in the very beginning. The album never really picks up from their though. Dont take me wrong, the effort put in this album is evident and it is an extraordinarly CD, but i feel like it picks me up buys me dinner but leaves half way through the date if you know what i mean. Not that the first half of the album is good and last 5 tracks [stink], but it never takes me home for the goodnight kiss.

Let's say you read alot of album reviews, and jot down the occasional recommended title. Then you go to the record store on a slow week, not really looking for anything specific. So you consult your list and you see the band Hot Rod Circuit written down. You go over to the H section and lo and behold the store has a copy of "Sorry About Tomorrow", so you buy it without any expectation whatsoever. Then you get home and throw the disk on the stereo and with each successive perfect power-pop track that comes on you realize you've unwittingly stumbled upon greatness. These days the emo tag is slapped on any buch of young guys who play guitars and sing about women, and it has come to mean absolutely nothing as a result. Let's just call this a rock album and be done with it. It just happens to be a rock album that boasts 11 tracks which are, every single one, keepers. The album clocks in at a little over 34 minutes and there is not a weak minute to be found. So you give yourself a pat on the back for your astute purchase and then walk around for the next few weeks with snippets of songs popping unbidden into your head, and each time you struggle to identify the track before you realize that it's Hot Rod Circuit again.

alright, first time through, it was good. i was suprised. honestly, this is the best purchase i've made in probably 2 years. this album could literally not get any better. every song is just smooth. i haven't listened to anything else since i bought it 5 days ago. it's good for virtually all moods and it's just plain good. screw this stupid emo label that these mindless morons are placing on this band and buy this record. personal favorites of mine are at nature's mercy, now or never, let's go home, get what you get and the night they blew up the moon. i would buy this thing for at nature's mercy though. anyway, this band just made the best record in years, so do them a favor and buy it. I barely ever like a FULL cd. But this is one I think you should try out. In my life Ive only liked one other cd begining to end. This one is my new favorite cd. Saw these guys in concert, props to the unknown band.

I've been a fan of HRC since for a while now, and was eagerly anticipating their Vagrant release. If you like their previous albums, you will most likely enjoy this one. Same sound, solid guitar licks, good production, and typical HRC vocals (although the first song really sounds like American Hi Fi). Hey this is nothing groundbreaking, but they do what they do very well, aggressive melodic indie/alt rock. An album to keep you bouncing, and I'm sure your girlfriend will like it too.
