SOTTO SOTTO (translated means "down down") is a nifty Italian comedy about a man (played well by Enrico Motesano) who finds out his wife has been cheating on him. He goes nuts trying to find the guy... being misled in all directions by his wife's answers to his question of "who is it?". Then, he finds out it's not a guy, but a girl she's in love with. After he spends some time agonizing (hilariously) over that concept, he goes berserk once more to find the other woman. Again, his wife misleads him into thinking it's someone else, a girl in a convent. Only in the end, does he find out his wife's lover is the lady next door. It's great fun to watch Motesano ranting and raving, cursing and fighting his way from one accused lover to the next. And, it's touching to see the struggling relationship between his wife and her lesbian lover. This film borders on manic seriousness, while making you laugh out loud. A classic Italian comedy. Italian with English subtitles.

Great Italian movie from Director Lina Wertmuller. Enrico Montesano, the main actor, is perfect for the part of the betrayed husband. A very good topic treated with lots of humor in times when the gay world was still hiding in Italy: a must see!

Moderately entertaining with lyrically beautiful scenes between women that are not offensive at all. One should have a good understanding of Italian culture to fully understand why the husband is driven mad by his wife's infidelity and particularly when he discovers it is a woman she has fallen in love with.

This film lacks much of the touching charm and does not emote much sympathy from you as does so many other Italian films. In this it is oddly lacking. One does feel, at times, a certain sympathy for the woman as she yearns for and tries to meet with the other woman but is prevented from doing so for various reasons that make clear why the film is called Sotto Sotto.
