Sotuma Sere,

This review is from: Sotuma Sere (Audio CD)
Papa Susso's "Sotuma Sere" is a quiet album of traditional, west African songs. Susso is a fine singer and kora player, in the sparse, unhurried style of a west African griot. This is very beautiful music that I return to often, particularly as a contrast to the music of some of the more commercially oriented (though still extremely good, and always worth hearing) west African bands or musicians such as Orchestra Baobab, Habib Koite, or Tinariwen. If you enjoy field recordings of music recorded in the villages and countryside of west Africa, you may enjoy this album as well - although it's a studio album, and is of very high quality in its recorded sound.
