Critical Health Warning At The Bottom:,
By 1BluesDude "1BluesDude" (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews

Do not buy this album if you are looking for something weak-go find something by John Tesh and never speak of the blues.
This cd should come in an asbestos case. Some of the highlights of this album are tracks 1 through 11. My personal favorite on this album is track 4, "Summertime Life". One night after a concert I was talking to him, and he said that it was also one of his favorites. "Every time you go away" is a great cover. The words really come alive wrapped in his voice. The last song I have to mention here is track 2- "I'd Rather Be Blind"~ "I'd rather be blind, than to see you go." Classic blues. Listen to the way he belts out the chorus. This is how it's supposed to be done. Warning: This music may be too strong for you- you may want to consult a physician. Side effects may include uncontrollable appreciation for his music, constant amazement, and prolonged guilt as to why you waited this long in your life to buy this album. If you do nothing else this year, buy this album.

Soulful,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soul Activated (Audio CD)
This CD features hard-driving R&B with some soulful ballads. Curtis Salgado's band is tight and on the money. Old Enough to Know Better and More Love Less Attitude are great catchy tunes to get you up dancing. He does a wonderul R&B cover of Jimmy Cliff's The Harder They Come. Lip Whippin is a jumping blues instrumental that show off Curtis Salgado's fine blues harp. There is not a weak cut on the CD. Highly recommended. (Don't miss him if you can see him live! I saw him as the opening act for George Thorogood and Steve Miller. Curtis Salgado easily blew them away!)

God Gave Salgado the Blues...,
This review is from: Soul Activated (Audio CD)
I've never been disappointed with a Curtis Salgado CD, but his latest release, "Soul Activated" is a much welcomed return to the nitty gritty, swampy soulful blues for which he's acclaimed. Previous releases have included some booty-kicking rock, but NOBODY grinds the true blues like Curtis Salgado. He comes "full circle" with this CD, including an all-time favorite, "More Love, Less Attitude," which fans will remember from his Bojangle days. "Soul Activated" is pure gutsy blues, meticulously selected by Salgado. His personal investment is evident as he writes and performs an upbeat cut from a friend's favorite saying: "Sweet Jesus, Buddha Doctor." I've seen Curtis open for Bobby Bland, Jefferson Starship, and Steve Miller - - should've been reverse billing!
