A classic RPG from Enix and the 16bit days, August 7, 2002
This review is from: Soul Blazer (Video Game)
Since I had enjoyed Actraiser so much (Soul Blazer is loosely based in the same world as Actraiser and made by the same company), I rushed out to buy Soul Blazer when it came out in the early 90's. I hadn't played Final Fantasy yet so this game with 8 swords, 8 armors, 8 magics, and up to 40 items seemed huge to me. I look back on it now and it seems simplistic compared to todays RPG's. This doesn't change the fact that this is one of my all time favorite RPG's. The music, story and to some extent the game play (not the boss battles) put this game ahead of all the rest. I remember crying at the ending when I first saw it. Not because it was sad, but because it was very moving for me at the time. This is the first game in a series by the way: the 2nd is Illusion of Gaia, and the third is Terranigma (which was released in English for the PAL version of the Super NES). It is a much better game than Illusion of Gaia IMHO. Overall a very highly recommended game.

Soul Blazer is the game before Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma in the series. I played IoG first by chance and loved it. Soon I was hunting fer Terranigma and Soul Blazer. Neverthelesss I found this game at another flea market and love it more than IoG. The music is unbelivable. This game just kicks...

How Could You Not LOVE This Game?!?!?!, August 8, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

Action RPGs were certainly in their prime on the SNES (Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Zelda 3, Illusion of Gaia, etc...) and this was a winner among champions!
Though Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore were much better and much deeper games, this game is still tons of fun. Fighting is easy to grasp and fun, the magic system is very well done, and the game has some extras and secret areas that make revisiting and exploring fun. The music is good, the graphics very good, the different realms are all unique and interesting.
Plus it's fun to unlock towns and villages by releasing the 'souls' that are trapped. Pretty unique.
My only beef is that the game is a little too easy and too quick.
