A classic RPG from Enix and the 16bit days,

Since I had enjoyed Actraiser so much (Soul Blazer is loosely based in the same world as Actraiser and made by the same company), I rushed out to buy Soul Blazer when it came out in the early 90's. I hadn't played Final Fantasy yet so this game with 8 swords, 8 armors, 8 magics, and up to 40 items seemed huge to me. I look back on it now and it seems simplistic compared to todays RPG's. This doesn't change the fact that this is one of my all time favorite RPG's. The music, story and to some extent the game play (not the boss battles) put this game ahead of all the rest. I remember crying at the ending when I first saw it. Not because it was sad, but because it was very moving for me at the time. This is the first game in a series by the way: the 2nd is Illusion of Gaia, and the third is Terranigma (which was released in English for the PAL version of the Super NES). It is a much better game than Illusion of Gaia IMHO. Overall a very highly recommended game.

Soul Blazer is the game before Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma in the series. I played IoG first by chance and loved it. Soon I was hunting fer Terranigma and Soul Blazer. Neverthelesss I found this game at another flea market and love it more than IoG. The music is unbelivable. This game just kicks...

Action RPGs were certainly in their prime on the SNES (Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Zelda 3, Illusion of Gaia, etc...) and this was a winner among champions!
Though Secret of Mana and Secret of Evermore were much better and much deeper games, this game is still tons of fun. Fighting is easy to grasp and fun, the magic system is very well done, and the game has some extras and secret areas that make revisiting and exploring fun. The music is good, the graphics very good, the different realms are all unique and interesting. Plus it's fun to unlock towns and villages by releasing the 'souls' that are trapped. Pretty unique. My only beef is that the game is a little too easy and too quick.

This game is a classic among classics. One of Enix's best of the older genre of video games and personally one of my childhood favorites. The story line is intriguing and game play is just that much more fun.
It's kinda funny but Enix has always made games I couldn't beat, i.e. Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean: The Second Story, and a few others including this title. It's nice to go back and finally beat it lol.

I first played this game shortly after it came out in the early 90's, during my 5th grade spring break. The game is an action RPG, meaning, you fight the enemies in real time and not in a separate screen like the Final Fantasy series. In the game, you play one of a god's servants, who is trying to help free the world from the grip of Deathtoll, who is essentially the devil. As you go through the game you pick up different weapons, armor, and magic which allow you to advance through the game. I remember that I found the sound and music to be quite beautiful at the time, and I still enjoy it today. The game is definitely worth a look, if you can find it. If you enjoy games such as Actraiser or Illusion of Gaia, you'll love this one.

It all began back in 1995 when i was 11 years old.Me and two friends of mine borrowed Soulblazer from an older boy in my neighborhood. At that time we did'nt know what an RPG was...So this was the first time i ever experienced this genre.Me and my friends loved it,everything was great about it.I love the monster lairs...And the dream rod...of course..So,if you have the chance and simply love old school RPG's.....BUY IT !!!!!!!!!!!

I actually played Illusion of Gaia over ten years ago and only recently found that it was part of a trilogy. I also hear that this game is better than Gaia, and having completed this game, I must agree with everyone else reviewing this game. I like the level-up system for this game much more than I do for Gaia, as well as the item system. I also like the various different worlds separated into zones, with more and more of each world being shown/freed as you go along destroying monsters and sealing their lairs. That was actually pretty cool, I'd never encountered such a game before.
This game might not be as impressive as games that came later, like Final Fantasy 7 and up, but for a old SNES game, it is definitely a wonderful game, and even better than some of the games released on today's gaming platforms. It was rather memorable, and I liked the ending. Illusion of Gaia was a nice game, but after playing this game, I'm disappointed that IoG wasn't more like this.

Soul Blazer is one of the funnest and most interesting RPG's I have ever played. I like they way you need to "release" characters in town from the monster nests (I guess that's what you'd call them). This game, no doubt, should be part of anyone's collection, whether you love RPG's or not. The storyline is excellent, and some of the character's abilities are really cool as well, such as seeing people's dreams and talking to and understanding animals.

This is one of the best rpg games for Super Nintendo. Right up there with Zelda, Secret of Mana, etc. Heck, it's better thanmost of the N64 games I've seen. The whole family can play this one...lots of cute little creatures & mean bosses. Several stages & good variety. Tons of stuff to find & explore as you progress. You can replay it often. This one's a keeper!!!

In my opinion piror to this game they only real rpg's that had came out so far in the USA where the dragon warrior games not including gameboy, or maybe Mother(earthbound) but I believe that only came out in Japan for NES. Firstly judge this game for it's time 1992 for it's time this game was ahead of it's time. Firstly the saving feature this game is easy to save none of that hold the reset button then power off. Of coarse many would argue that Legend of Zelda for nes was a good game piror to this game's release. Sorry not a huge Zelda fan so I'd beg to differ, this game is weird and simple. However, trust me for it's time this game was pretty advanced, were a kid in the early 90's you know what I mean. Just give this game time it is pretty good.
