Book Description

The gods are playing games again and this time it’s going to get ugly.

Empusa is the daughter of the goddess of witchcraft and the moon. As a child of the moon, she has all of the ethereal lunar powers that come with it. She is beautiful, vulnerable and strong. But since she is cursed by her father to drink souls and mortal blood, her powers will come back to haunt her…

Brennan is the son of Apollo, the god of the sun. As a child of the sun, he is handsome, golden, brave and strong. He’s just learning to harness his own immortal powers, only there isn’t much time…

In this second book of the Moonstone Saga, there’s an ugly, twisted storm brewing on Olympus and Brennan and Em are in the center of it. Their powers are conflicting, polar opposites. If they can’t learn to handle their abilities without killing each other, they will kill everyone in the mortal world, as well. Time is ticking and the gods are watching. Who will rise, who will fall and who will be left standing?

5.0 out of 5 stars Action, Romance and Mythology- A MUST read! April 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I love the characters in this book! Seriously! I feel so much for Empusa. She is cursed and she hates the person she is forced to be, but there are things she MUST do in order to live. I feel like Brennan is sort of her reward for living hundreds of years in the hell of her bondage. And that Brennan! *sigh* He is wonderful! He's her hero, he's her biggest fan, he believes in her even when she doesn't. He's the perfect man! Their chemistry is genuine and off-the-charts! The writing in this book is superb and there are plot twists and turns galore, ones that I will not divulge so as not to spoil the story for new readers. I think it's sufficient to say it does not disappoint. Pick up this series, y'all. You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was NOT expecting that! April 22, 2012

I wasn't sure what to expect from Soul Bound, if there's anything Cole is good at, it's keeping her readers on their toes. With that being said, she definitely delivered a total surprise to me. In Soul Bound, Em and Brennan are faced with the task of figuring out how they can be together and essentially not bring about the apocolypse (talk about a killer on a relationship...that would suck.) Not only that, but they're still hiding from Em's deranged father who wants nothing more than to kill her. The pair start off in the past, stumbling across Em's half sister, who eagerly comes to their aid, in an ancient world. Through a series of events, we learn that the gods, in their anger, have orchestrated a vicious game to pit Em and Brennan against one another, a game that every time they fail to meet the challenges Zeus throws at them, will result in the sacrifice of a mortal soul.

I loved the plot of this book, it's probably my favorite from all six of the books that make up both series. I feel like the twists and turns that Cole put in this novel were impossible to anticipated, even though they perfectly blend with the mythology of the book. The things the gods did were things that fit perfectly with their fictional characterizations and fit perfectly with their historical representations. They were feasible actions, ones that anyone familiar with the basics of Greek Mythology, could easily associate with the Zeus and Hades and Apollo.

The characters were also spot on for me. I especially found myself partial to Em in this book, more so than even before. The struggles she had to endure, and the choices she had to make in response to the good of the world and the good of her relationship with Brennan were befitting to the choices that a girl newly in love would make. Add in that she's a thousand years old, and the choice she makes is even more realistic and heartbreaking. I feel that her character really grew in Soul Bound, that she took that last step to truly embracing her heritage as a daughter of the gods.

I wish there had been a little more insight into Brennan's thoughts, just because of the many changes he's had to endure throughout his time with Em, but even so I still loved him. But not as much as I loved Hades. This was truly Hades' chance to shine, and I was so floored by his constant presence in this book. I grew attached to his character many books ago, in the Bloodstone Saga, and I've hoped and hoped to see more of him as the two series progressed. Cole certainly didn't let me down.

As I've said before, I would recommend the Bloodstone Saga to anyone. It's truly a series that needs more recognition, and the Moonstone Saga is shaping up to be an equally impressive series. With Soul Bound, we get more insight into the intricate, and not always perfect Gods that everyone had heard of through Greek Mythology, we get a dose of history that I feel everyone should have some familiarity with, and there is no shortage of epic battles! We also get adventure, beautiful imagery and a heartwarming romance that is filled with hope in a world full of darkness and uncertainty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eclipse April 6, 2012

Empusa and Brennan find each other in Soul Kissed only to be told they shouldn't be together. Daughter of the Moon and the Son of the Sun have a power so great if not controlled can bring upon an Apocalypse, or can it? Courtney Cole is an amazing writer and this second installment into the Moonstone Saga is filled with love, loss, confusion, love, determination, triumph, and did I say love? The journey that Em and Brenn are going through is far from over,in fact its just begun, but they are together and that is what matters.

Soul Bound is just the beginning to a war with the gods. Two sides will stand to fight, which side will you be on?

With that being said, I love the Bloodstone Saga and was a little worried when I found out that Moonstone Saga was going to be a spin off, but I took a chance and was definitely not disappointed. Like Harmonia and Cadamus in the Bloodstone Saga, Empusa and Brennan face a set of problems all on their own and can bring about a change to Olympus that Zeus is worried about. Greek mythology has always been a fascination of mine, which drew me to Courtney Cole as a writer. She does not disappoint, her words create a world inside your head that leaves you feeling as though you were right beside these characters. I believe that the best writer is able to pull you into their world, and Courtney Cole has managed to that to me. I stay awake until every bit of the book is finished to dream about it when I fall asleep. Definitely an amazing author!
