Book Description

Soul-Centered: Transform Your Life in 8 Weeks with Meditation presents a secular, mainstream view of meditation and applies it practically as a tool for personal transformation. Each week’s lesson in the 8-week program contains a key for navigating the journey of self-awareness, and each week’s meditation practice builds on those of the previous weeks, making the process accessible and enjoyable for novices and experts alike. Inspiring stories from Sarah’s own experience and from the students she’s taught in her 20-year career as a meditation teacher further enrich the text. Her approach is grounded in leading-edge brain research that shows meditating for 27 minutes a day over 8 weeks can make a huge difference by altering the gray matter in areas of the brain that govern learning, memory, empathy, and stress.

Each of the lessons in the 8-week program is designed to provide a structure for creating a successful and sustainable meditation practice. As the readers build their meditation practice, they learn to undo stressful habits that don’t serve them, cultivate compassion for themselves and others, and listen to and trust their inner wisdom.

The Soul-Centered journey is one of finding out who you really are; navigating your life based on that peaceful, loving, wise part of yourself; then fully and fearlessly expressing yourself in the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective and fun to way to learn meditation! April 11, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wow! This book was helpful and effective in walking me through the meditation process.

As a new 'meditator' I've been looking for a method that resonates and works. This book broke down the process into steps that are easy to follow, while keeping the learning fun!

I admit to reading other books and I've even attended classes - the writers/leaders always seemed to complicate the process and keep me in my head. This author demystified meditation and successfully guided me toward my goal.

Again, I'm a new 'meditator', but I already find the benefit. There's a calm and clearness on the days I meditate - thank you thank you thank you Soul-Centered!!! I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Meditation techniques and more!!! April 30, 2012
Format:Paperback
I just finished reading Soul-Centered book by Sarah McLean. It is a great book, and 100% worth of your investment (energy + time + money). If you are considering to practice or learn meditation, and sharpen your self-awareness this is the book for you. Also, it is a wonderful gift for those you care about it. In case you are a Health Care Practitioner (traditional or alternative), you have a jewel (box of tools) to refer to your clients to support their well-being.

Sarah writing style is easy and graceful. Her down to earth approach will appeal for adults of all ages and teens. This book was organized in a way that you can practice/learn different meditations and awareness exercises in a period of 8 weeks. It covers all the most important and simple practices available. The short periods of practices will easily fit in your daily schedules.

Meditation is part of my daily living. Thus, I can testify that the techniques included in this book are effective, and will change your life if you use them regularly. Such techniques will assist you to get to know who you really are. It will enhance the communication between your body-mind-spirit system. Consequently your mental, physical and emotional health will improve to an optimum state, and your intuition will be sharper than ever.

Sarah McLean called being "soul-centered" the state of placing your "soul as reference point by which you navigate life". "It's an inner com¬pass that transforms the way you see yourself and the way you respond to the world". "You learn that thoughts and emotions are not "who you are"; they are not your inner essence. Once you realize this, you are less controlled by stimuli or sensations".

5.0 out of 5 stars Get inspired to meditate! April 24, 2012
Format:Paperback
This book is a gem. For anyone wanting to start a practice of meditation, it provides the inspiration and easy week-by-week steps to get you started. Sarah walks us through the various ways to meditate in a gentle, friendly, and understanding way, informing us along the way about her own journey, which is quite an interesting one and another reason this book is so easy to stay with and digest. I also appreciated hearing about what science has recently discovered about the effects of meditation on the brain and body. This is a book for anyone who is ready to get serious about meditation and also anyone who is just curious and open to finding out more about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Contemporary Meditation Book April 14, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have attended Sarah McLean's meditation classes and retreats for years. Sarah is an inspiring modern-day guru! Her new book, Soul-Centered, shows you--step by step-- how to move from the mundane lives that trap so many of us to the fulfillment of the soul. What I love about the book is that Sarah makes ancient practices mainstream and simple to follow (not woo woo). As I have followed her 8-week program, I have become more peaceful, centered and present. The book is a must-read for anyone who wants to experience the magic of life in its fullness. *Highly recommend*

5.0 out of 5 stars changed my life December 12, 2012
By randi

Great Book. I had some issues with anger and sought help in therapy. I came across this book at that time. I used this book in the manner that the author suggested, I read the book through first then went back and did the 8 weeks of reading and application. I am in my 60's and I wish I had this resource in my early life. This is not a book espousing any kind of religion. I was raised Christian and it in no way contradicts my beliefs. I am thankful to have read and applied this to my life. If you practice meditation and mindful awareness your views and life will change for the better. Thank You Sarah.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful August 15, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have tried to meditate off and on but I have always become frustrated and quit. This book was what I have been looking for. The author has so much to teach. Probably her most important lesson is to see meditation as practice looking at your own thoughts and emotions. As such, distraction is not failure. Instead, I now see that noticing distraction is really a central part of meditation. Sitting is really justpracticing habits that I can draw on throughout the day. I am no longer focused upon having an "experience" while meditating. The pressure is off. This is just one example of why reading this book is absolutely worth your time.
