Dusko Goykovich, a trumpet player with a mellow tone who appears to be relatively unknown here in the United States. This is the second acquisition of his recordings by me and although it was recorded two years earlier than "Balkan Connection" (my earlier review), I consider it superior. Although he has his own style, this particular album has a lot of similarity to the style of Miles Davis both in the type of material and in the conciseness of his phrasing in the solos. From the melancholy opener through the closer which reminds me of Art Blakey or Nat Adderley, the whole set reminds me of other tunes and certainly the type of material which Miles would have performed. Dusko's efforts are certainly aided by an excellent rhythm section of Tommy Flanagan at the piano, Eddie Gomez on bass, and the veteran Mickey Roker on the drums. Flanagan's fine piano work is particularly evident in the bossa nova "Inga" but also throughout the whole disc. Gomez has some great bass licks that got my attention on "Inga" and the standard "I'll Close My Eyes". The great tenor saxist Jimmy Heath makes the group a quintet in four selections.

I'm sure this will appeal to those who appreciate good small group jazz, excellent trumpet, or the sound of good bop reminiscent of Miles Davis in the 60's. This type of music is really timless!

An amazing album by an amazing jazz trumpet master. Backed by the legendary musicians like Tommy Flanagan (p) and Jimmy Heath (ts), Dusko will really blow you away with this album!

Not only is he an amazing trumpet player, but also a great composer. Just listen to the original cuts like Inga or Ballad For Miles.

Every real jazz fan should have this album in his collection. Love it and recommend it.

Love his music but am not impressed with the quality of the sound. It doesn't sound clear on my BOSE, doesn't do very well in my car or on my brand new laptop. Guess this is what you have to deal with buying an older record, however, I was hoping for this to be an exception given the price.

Not a believer in reincarnation , but I must say, "here is Miles again , Con Alma, and modern ;" This guy is a wonderful talent. Why are so many like Dusko hidden away?
