The Soul Decision is a collection of poetry presented in a trilogy of work, In Awe of the Journey and including the previously published poetry from The Nature of Darkness and Inspired by Their Spirits. The new collection continues telling the story in verse of the saga of a family under siege. When the book Inspired By Their Spirits ends we want to believe that Valerie, age four, has been cured and that our lives will take on a "normal" course of living. So the opening poems of In Awe Of The Journey have a optimistic, joyous tone to them, but within five months we would realize that something was seriously wrong with our daughter, something drastically wrong.
About the Author
Charles Portolano started writing six years ago with the birth of his daring daughter Valerie, who was born with many obstacles to overcome. Writing became his way to save his sanity. Valerie has kept life more than interesting, which has given him much to write about. In 2000, Wyndham Hall Press published Inspired By Their Spirits, which tells the story in verse of Valerie’s awe-inspiring first four years of life. In 2001, Wyndham Hall Press published his second collection of poems, The Nature of Darkness, which explores the many aspects of the world of darkness. He has been happily married since 1986 to Vivi Portolano.
