Editorial Reviews

Deluxe edition includes four bonus tracks. 2011 release, the debut solo album from the frontman and songwriter for Alt-Rock favorites Fall Out Boy. The album features no guest artists and is truly a solo project with Patrick handling all the instruments, vocals and production completely on his own.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Record October 18, 2011
By Loa
Format:Audio CD
I'm gonna start off by warning hard core emo fans to not even try to diminish the excellence of this record because its not FOB. Got it? Good!

This record is excellent. From begining to end Patrick shows off music talent that has be mostly dormant in the wake of his previous band. His vocals are smooth and melodic and the music is such a groove you dont even know you're jammin until you find yourself dancing around your living room. His lyrics are precise and meaningful to not only the things he's personally going through, but issues that are going around the world period. From tracks like "This City" to "Greed", he hits the points home that matter most to him.
He also explores not only his own naivete "Allie", "Explode" he also gives us inspirtational music to make us feel good "Coast" and "Spotlight". That's not to say he thinks he's perfect. In fact, the best songs on the record are his most personal like "The I in Lie" where he uses the metaphor of cheating to explain why this record didn't come out last year like it was supposed to. It's a stretch but a clever play on words and situations.

***Other honorable mentions***
Run Dry-Fantastic song about drinking too much and feeling the regret of the decisions.
Bad Side of 25- An amazingly honest song about his quarter life crisis.
Mad at nothing- Just so melodic and sweet, you just want to hear his voice
Everybody wants Somebody- Such a excellent song and an amazing groove.

The whole record is an amazing start to his solo career and I absolutely cannot wait to see him once he fully perfect his musical skills. He will be a force in the pop world for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise.... November 5, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Patrick Stump has undergone a lot of changes since his days as the reticent, yet soulful Fall Out Boy lead singer. He has lost a notable amount of weight and on his exceptional solo outing Soul Punk, Stump hones into his soulfulness channeling a mix of pop a la 2011 and Michael Jackson infused vocals. Sure he never outperforms the `King of Pop' (who could?), but he delivers and album that is well-crafted, indulgent, and creative.

"Explode" opens the effort exceptionally with an array of driving synths. Instantly, the Fall Out Boy fan can safely establish the fact that Stump works to differentiate himself from his band. The harmonic progression is well crafted and the bridge section provides a clever change of key and style. Not much to quibble about here, "Explode" is both a sound opener and a pleasant surprise. "This City" is another fine cut, firmly planted into an urban-pop style. Stump sounds incredibly soulful and the big refrain was made for his powerhouse vocals. Stump uses pop gimmickry, but he never overdoes it like so much of pop music does. "This City" proves to be a fine choice for a promo single. "Dance Miserable" provides yet another capable, infectious groove established from the onset. The drum programming is well conceived with the overall production being exceptional in all regards. The soulful, harmonized vocals may be the highlight, along with Stump's soul-laden vocal runs.

"Spotlight (New Regrets)" falls a bit short of the first three cuts, but still sits above par in the macro sense of things. The tempo accelerates here (a smart contrast) and the bridge section is a clear highlight by all means.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Rock October 18, 2011
Format:Audio CD
This new cd by Patrick Stump is contains a mix of songs that carefully craft the elements of rock and electronica. My overall favorite song on this cd is currently Coast (It's Gonna Get Better). This song appears to be a therapeutic message of staying self-confident regardless of what emerges in life. For me, getting this collection is a form of consolation due to the fact that his concert was already sold out in my area by the time I decided to try to get a ticket. I would highly recommend this cd for anyone that enjoys hearing his vocals and/or songs of the rock/electronica music genre.

4.0 out of 5 stars PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE MASTERS October 26, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I expected this album to be more of the same old dreck, auto tuned vocals, overly explicit lyrics etc... Then I heard a young man that not only had heard the greats (Prince, Thriller era Michael Jackson, Rick James, Hall and Oates) and not only had he listened he had learned from them. He also showed his contemporaries (Akon,Black Eyed Peas, whoever sung that birthday sex song} how to do it, innuendo goes much further than blatant perversion (anyone that has heard a five year old sing the birthday sex song can attest, not cute just creepy). The kid can really sing. i hope people like this as much as I do, the only reason it doesn't get five stars is because I think his next outing will be even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars How lovely! October 19, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
His first album was really good. I actually have the deluxe album and it was worth the extra money. The songs are very catchy and danceable to. My favorite song is Run Dry. It's just one long amazing song. Alot of people need to stop comparing his songs to F.O.B. songs. They are different, but in a good way. I just can't wait to hear more from him.

Look up the lyrics because it can be hard to understand him sometimes, you'll be surprised. I wish he'd put out more solo albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Talent
He is such a cutie and I love how this album he can focus on him as a musician and singer rather than the group of Fall Out Boy. I love their work and he does great by himself too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing??
Could you imagine writing a song by yourself? He wrote this entire album by himself, and that in itself blows me away. It's a fun album though, with great messages. Read more
