i'm sorry but this game is so lame, it makes fighting force 2 look like METAL GEAR. this is what happens when programmers rush a game in time for the holidays. let's see...poor character design, dark & dull graphics, a corny repetitive soundtrack and not to mention the lame ass sean connery impersonation..("GO!")

I HAD WAY MORE FUN PLAYING GAURDIAN...

I HAD WAY MORE FUN PLAYING GAURDIAN HEROES for the defunct SEGA SATURN than this 128 bit mess. if sega releases more crap like SOUL FIGHTER, the DC may die a horrible death, just in time for sony's playstation 2. but luckly that is not the case, cause RE; CODE VERONICA, LEGACY OF KAIN, CARRIER & ZOMBIE REVENGE is on it's way. THANK GOD!

avoid this game at any cost, at least it makes a great coaster or even a mini frisbee..

2.0 out of 5 stars No soul or fighting, December 7, 1999

- Confusing camera: in a third person game, the camera is suppose to be directly and above the character. In this game, it's everywhere BUT third person

- Simple fighting combos: punch, punch, kick, taken straight from Dynamite Cop. You can use a sword or axe but only for limited time before it disintegrates. Must have bought them at a garage sale or something.

- Lame graphics: I've never seen a world so shiny and bright. I take it the game designers never heard of atmosphere or mood lighting. Also the characters were taken out of some cheesy 50's horror flick, and move just as badly!

- Sound: Imagine cheesy disco music combined with cheesy pop music. I'd rather listen to that combination from hell then the soundtrack to this game. And the worst part is, you can't shut off the music! What's the point in having an options screen if you can't turn off the music. Plus, if you stay still for 3 seconds, Sean Connery (well someone one sounds somewhat like Sean, maybe his brother Earl) starts yelling "Go!" repeatly and incessantly.

All together you have a game with bad music, bad controls, bad graphics, bad special effects, uh, do you think I used the word "bad" enough?

I thought Dynamite Cop was awful after I finished the entire game in 20 minutes, but I'd rather take 20 minutes of beating up pirates then Earl Connery shouting at me.

As a fan of both fantasy and video games, I was really looking forward to this title. I had also heard that it was similar to Golden Axe, which was another plus. Within 10 minutes of playing this game I came to regret my purchase.

The game suffers at every level: graphics, sound, and playability. I would say the graphics fall somewhere between the level of Nintendo 64 and the Dreamcast, which while decent are surely not what they should be on the latter. The sound is minimal; I think I remember a few sword clinks and some grunts. What is even worse than the game graphics are the ridiculous cutscenes (not to mention the game's intro, which is nothing short of pathetic), which, graphically, look like they belong on a Playstation. But all this aside, even if I was satisfied with the graphics and sound, the gameplay is the one thing I would not be able to overlook.

Gameplay is not much more than pushing a couple of buttons repeatedly, and so you run around, punch/kick, punch/kick, punch/kick, etc. Once in a while you get to pick up an axe or sword, and then as if by magic you use it a couple of times and it disappears. Also, often you will find yourself backtracking through areas you have already cleared just to find some stupid key/object (this happened to me more than a couple of times). And as is to be expected with this sort of game, here come the same few enemies, over and over and over again.

Conclusion: I would not buy this game ever again, even if it was at half-price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Give me Final Fight Back!, December 28, 1999

I received this game for a gift, and didn't have the foresight to read someone's review about it before I actually opened the plastic! If this is your situation (but you haven't opened it) then STOP and return it! I would've rather played Final Fight for the Super Nintendo! At least in that game you can see what is going on clearly. This has to be one of the worst games I have ever played. There is really no strategy, there is TONS of backtracking to parts of levels you thought you'd beat, but then more enemies just appear, and the game just isn't any fun. Also, it was pretty dumb to not make the game for any more than one player at a time, with multiplayer this horrible game might at least be bearable for five minutes. I'm almost ashamed to own this game!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice graphics but terrible controls, June 13, 2000

What looks to be an entertaining fighting game is hindered by awkward and edgy controls. You have a choice of selecting 1 of 3 characters each with their own unique fighting styles. Although each fighter is quite fluid in their movements, controlling them so that they hit their target is not quite as intuitive. Button mashing will only create frustration since most moves are made of a sequences - the character will initiate each move accordingly and until he/she is finished you may end up facing a wall with your targets behind you. You can change the view from 1st person to more of an overhead - 1st person is nice if you need to target a long distance enemy or figure out distance for longer weapons (swords). Button mashing will not work as intuitively as most fighting games. Although it isn't unusual to face one enemy at a time, it also isn't out of the ordinary to be bombarded by two or three enemies attacking in what seems like at the same time. Learning to control movement so that you are facing the target will prove to be the largest obstacle. Once you figure that out you can get your character to do a number of very useful and interesting moves. Two different modes will determine whether you have more than one life to lose or see how long you can last with one life option (Adventure mode). The game can be highly frustrating and tends to be more eye candy than entertaining.

This game has absolutly no fun factor. You'll play it once and then throw it away. The graphics are an example of sega rushing to make a game during the early days of Dreamcast.
There are only 3 characters and their moves a very weak. The magican isn't even able to cast any spells. He can not turn enemies into cats, frogs, etc.

Spend your money on Dynamite Cop instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars kids like this game, October 26, 2002

I played this game and when I played it I liked it becuase it is like golden axe. Both of those games are fun to play. Eventhough it is rated for teens I thought it was not too scary, maybe just a little in the dark places. I think other kids will like it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could've been better...., August 29, 2001

I got this game, along with a couple of other games on my birthday from relatives (beware when a relative does such a risky move as this. They usually buy the cheapest game for you, knowing ONLY that you like to play video games). So I popped Soul Fighter in my Dreamcast. Let's start with the pros:
The graphics aren't that bad. the CG scenes could have been a LOT better, and the "king" doing the narraration in the beginning could've used some voice acting lessons. He sounded like a fake Sean Connery. Haha...it is to laugh. Ooops, did I say pros? Well, you can choose from three characters...that's about it. Well, on to the cons:
The first thing that really urked me was the control. I wasn't to thrilled about how slippery the character movements are. If you move with the analog, your character automatically starts running, and if you want to make a short stop, you have to stop really early, so as not to slide. The second thing that literally began to make me nautious, was the awkward camera angles. It's a little difficult to get your bearings and to find out where enemies are with the camera spinning and turning pretty much when it pleases. Of course, there is very little storyline, because it IS a beat 'em up. then there's the issue of lack of fighting moves. You end up wearing out your thumbs and your controller buttons with the lack of good combo moves and fighting strategies (e.g. Streets of Rage 1,2 & 3). The last thing that was a big downer was the fact that with a little tweaking on the above mentioned things and by adding a 2 player option, this game would have been something special. In conclusion, it's not that it's COMPLETELY horrible, but, if a little more time had been put into gameplay, then Soul Fighter wouldn't seem so much as a rushed job. Rent it, or purchase it if you want to have a library of DC games. Other than that, it's not one to write home about.

Unless you are about 5 years of age and have no concept of quality/fun/gaming, I'd not recommend this game. It gets boring after about 5 minutes. Even the intro was terrible. The story line was stupid, and all in all, I'd give this game a big zero. The graphics are decent, but the boredom and useless factor weigh against anything relevant. If you would like to check it out anyway, I'd recommend you rent it first. Who knows, a few people may enjoy it.
