This should come as no surprise, but it does.,

"Soul On Fire", released in September 2001, reached my ears in January of '02. Having heard only one track, "Home" off a "Martha Stewart Themed Compilation", I prepared to enjoy one or two tracks, which seems to be the standard these days, at least to my discerning and sometimes irrationally critical tastes. This record is the most complete performance I have heard since Shawn Colvin's "Fat City".The title cut "Soul On Fire" starts things out with flare, pun intended"...the snappy uptempo groove crackles along and whets the appetite for things to come. Without getting too deep into this, let me just say that Jenny Bruce's songs, her voice and the production of each track are unique. The diversity of the songs is so refreshing. She doesn't lay back and do the same kinda thing track after track in the name of style...everything is brand new...I can't urge you enough to buy this CD......it's a hidden treasure.

I've got the first album, and this is a really strong follow up! I have the pleasure of seeing Jenny locally here in New York quite a bit. If you can get here for one of her gigs, do!!

A Real Pleasure,

Jenny Bruce's new album, Soul On Fire, defies easy categorizing, in that it seems pop-folk, with some rock, and maybe sometimes a cabaret sound. Her lyrics are thoughtful and her melodies grab you. I have listened to it many times already. She has a wonderful voice. Amsterdam is a real winner, as well as Home, Running, and Amen. But it is all enjoyable.

this is, quite simply, music to live by. jenny bruce is an unsurpassed lyricist, and this is a cd that i can (and do) listen to for hours on end. the songs enchant, mesmerize. "amsterdam" is, of course, musical genius (but then she won the billboard songwriting award for it, didn't she??) (and we in holland would dearly love to hear her sing it HERE!!!)...but there isn't one song on this cd that i tend to skip. i loved her first cd, i love this one even more. so real.

I heard songs from this album and Left Of July on All My Children. I am now a Jenny Bruce fan. I bought the whole album. "Home" is my favorite song ever!

I came across Jenny's work through another artist's website. What a gem! I can't believe I'd never heard of her before. How is that possible? Soul On Fire is such a piece of quality work. Great writing, performances and production. Every song is a little masterpiece - try finding that on a major label release! If you like Shawn Colvin, Sarah MacLachlan you'll be amazed that you've never heard Jenny - and if you have I'm sure, like me you were drawn right in. I am just blown away and am looking forward to finding more work by Jenny Bruce!

Exciting new artist,

Far and away the best new album I heard in the last year. I heard Jenny live at the Red River Revel in Shreveport, Louisiana last October (2003). It was a stunniong performance. I purchased both her CD's on site, and discovered that, while the live performance was wondeful, the poor acoustics at the festival had obscured Jenny's true abilty. The intelligent lyrics, the sophisticated construction of the music with compelling melodies, great rhythm, and superb balance was very exciting. For me she is the best new artist of 2003.

This has got to be one of the best independent albums I've ever heard. For that matter, it's one of the best albums, period! A friend of mine heard Jenny play a show in NYC and bought her CD. I heard it and immediately purchased one myself. I highly recommend buying this cd. You won't regret it. Her songs, her voice, the production... It's just brilliant - and I'm a tough critic as I'm in the music industry : ) Hope more people catch on and quickly.
