I First saw Cross Canadian at a bar in Davis, Oklahoma back in 2002 and was very impressed with their live show. There was a ton of energy and they played a really great show. This is an amazing band that has been around for awhile, Soul Gravy is there newest album and it doesnt dissapoint, I would classify them as Red Dirt Country or Texas Country even though they are from Oklahoma some would call it southern rock. All in all it is a great album from a great band 5 STARS, plus it comes with a DVD of a live show so you can see what its like but it doesnt compare with the real deal.
BUY THIS ALBUM AND SUPPORT THIS BAND AND GO TO A SHOW IF YOU GET THE CHANCE. standout songs - ALL OF THE SONGS STANDOUT. THIS IS AN AMAZING ALBUM FROM START TO FINISH

Cross Canadian Ragweed confirms the belief that the heart of Southern Rock is still beating. I wish mainstream country radio played this stuff more often. These guys ROCK!!

Best Group Out There,
By Kelly Edwards (Paris, AR) - See all my reviews

My friends and I began listening to CCR about 2 years ago and they just keep getting better. CCR may be the only group that makes a cd that you don't have to skip songs, you can listen to the whole thing. The DVD is awsome it's just like a live concert (we've been to 5) and they rock. Best song on Soul Gravy is Strangle Hold. Let track 13 play through 6:30 and it begins. This is a group that will actually talk with you after a show, I talked with Grady and Cody after a show in Little Rock and Fayetteville and their pretty damn cool. I'm glad they are finally getting air time in my area. All the songs are greatbut, tracks 1, 2, 4, 10, 11, and 13 rock for a "country group." A must buy for everyone.

Goofball name, terrific band,
This review is from: Soul Gravy (Audio CD)
We picked up some CCR albums last year when they were listed as the warmup act for a ZZ Top concert we were going to. We liked the recordings and we loved their live show. CCR suffers from an identity problem, they think they're a rock band with a strong country influence but the music industry thinks they're alt.country. And let's face it, the name of the band doesn't help. Fortunately the music speaks for itself, this band has solid song-writing and they deliver a smoking live show, the ZZ Top audience had never heard of them but still gave them a standing ovation at the end of their set. This is a good album and there are several songs here that could be hits if radio stations would play them, but whether they make it big or remain a cult band, CCR is good stuff.

This Gravy is Delicious!!,

CCR does it again. Soul Gravy is like Donnie and Marie - Its a little bit country and a little bit rock and roll, and everything in between. But Unlike Donnie and Marie, this album doesn't suck. Fans of the band or lovers of outlaw country will especially like this masterful CD.

Good CD From a Great Band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soul Gravy (Audio CD)
I just got into Ragweed's music about four months ago and have already seen them in concert twice and I'm a huge fan. They're destined for fame; I believe it's only a matter of time. This CD has some great songs, like "Alabama", "Lonely Girl" and "Sick and Tired". It also has some songs with more rock roots, like "Again" and "Hammer Down". It reminds me of old Southern Rock, like Creedence and Skynard.

And I thought the "Purple Disc" was their best...,
By
This review is from: Soul Gravy (Audio CD)
When I first heard the Purple disc, I fell in love with this band right away. After seeing their video for "17" and playing the single until it wore out, I bought the album. It was awesome. When I found out this was their new one, I bought it as soon as I found it. I expected it to be good, but not as good as the Purple disc.I was wrong. Very, very wrong. "Soul Gravy" has got to be one of the best country-rock albums ever. And it's not just country-rock, it's the blues, heavy country, rock, etc. It's hard to listen to this disc and not sing along or tap your hands on the steering wheel as you fly down the road, with this disc as your soundtrack to life. It has fast rock songs, slow country songs, songs that make you look at your own life and being, and songs that just make you happy. One of, if not THE, best track on the album is "Hammer Down." If you happen to be in the car when this comes on, look out -- you'll soon be doing about 70 without realizing it. It's a great song, from start to finish. My other personal favorite was the ballad "Sick and Tired." Truly a soul-touching song. It is a shame though, that bands like this get such little, if any, radio airplay. Staying true to their music and their fans is highly respectable, but I wish more people knew about CCR. Once people hear their songs, they get hooked, and CCR could conquer American radio, and not just country. Part of me wonders if the radio "people" refuse to play them because they are countryish-rockers, and aren't too marketable because 12-year-old girls won't buy the CDs. But as long as everybody who buys the CD shows it to their friends, CCR will continue to become more and more popular, as it is hard to not like them.

Soul Gravy for your Musical plate,
By
This review is from: Soul Gravy (Audio CD)
This is the best country rock album I have listened to a in quite a while... it's rock and roll, county, and a little blues with great lyrics , and just plain great music. I haven't stopped listening to it since I bought it and now my daughters have purchased their own CDs. The guitars, and other instruments are played flawlessly and the songs ring of Petty, Mellencamp mixed with any number of the Country stars out there.Plain and simple you won't go wrong by buying this CD and hopefully the boys will have enough success to go on with their music and build a great career because they deserve it. Great Music.. enough said

All I can say is this Album rocks! I've listened to this band since '96 when I was at Oklahoma State. It's amazing that every album they put out is better than the last. This album is what music is all about! The title says it all, this album gives you the soul gravy you need. America, watch out for Cross Canadian Ragweed, because they're coming on ya fast.

Best Garage Band I Have Heard In 25 Yrs.,
By
This review is from: Soul Gravy (Audio CD)
First off let me explain, I am not knockin the boys from OK when I say garage band, since most of the bands I love sound like kick butt garage bands and they are no exception with the likes of skynyrd, hatchett, outlaws and blackfoot.
I have been keen on these guys for about three years and let me tell you this ain't country it is serious rock ( southern rock ). Cody and the band really get it right with soul gravy from the opening Number to the end Stranglehold, which I did not even know was on the CD but in a stoned state of mind after Too Far Gone was over while reading Jimmy Buffett a pirate looks at 50 I had no other CD on the player and was drifting thinking about my up and coming trip to Jamaica when holly S*#t I thought I had Terrible Ted on the player. If you like rock and I mean damn good rock and if you happen to be over the age of 40 or even pushin the under belly of 50 like some of us then this is a must have for your collection. Its what rock albums are supposed to be. |
