Book Description

It was only a wish.

Connor Sullivan was painfully average. The very highlight of his existence was going to school, doing homework, and playing video games. He thought nothing
would ever change that. Unfortunately, homework usually screws everything up.

A cut, some blood, and a hastily scrawled promise to sell his soul for his fondest wish...and all hell breaks loose. Literally.

The Demons take him up on his offer.

In a last ditch effort to keep his soul, he wishes to become one of the demons, or Fallen as they call themselves. Connor thought he had found a solution
to his problem. He never fully understood the meaning of the phrase, "From the frying pan into the fire," until his wish was granted. The biggest catch?
Never ever fall in love with a human...

And then she walked into his school. Beautiful, red-haired, funny...and blind. Connor's heart didn't stand a chance. Neither did the Fallen's rules.
He had saved his soul, but could he find happiness without hurting the girl he loved? Or would secrets Jessica didn't even know she had destroy them all?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Teen Urban Fantasy romance May 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Connor is a fairly typical teen. He loves video games and hates math, so what possesses him to make a wish, written in blood and burned over a black candle? Maybe the math homework drove him to it. Connor's wish propels him into a world he had no idea existed and turns his ideas of who the good guys and bad guys are upside down. You might think the Fallen are demons and the Chosen are angels, which, mostly they are, but the angels aren't necessarily the good guys and the demons aren't necessarily the bad ones. Fallen, Clarisse befriends Connor and teaches him about his new powers (from his wish). A new girl, Jessica, moves to the area and seems to like him. Before, Connor couldn't find a girl interested in him to save his life, now he has two beautiful girls hanging out with him, and crazy cool powers. Oh, and he gets his first, very unexpected kiss ever--what could go wrong?

This is a very fast paced story full of adventure, love, heartbreak, and strange powers. I really enjoyed Mr. Hayden's clean writing and compelling characters. Connor is a very well told main character full of real teen insecurities and strengths. You really feel Connor's emotions, are happy when he's happy and torn up when he's hurt. The story stands alone, but the ending hooks you in and leaves you anxious for the next book. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves YA Urban Fantasy with a nice touch of romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars This one's a "keeper" May 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Badass biker babes from Hell? Check. Demons galore? Check. Hilarious dialogue, crackling danger and enough twists and turns to name a roller coaster after it? Double-check. My Soul to Keep is another great entry in my Sean Hayden library. What, you don't have one yet? What are you waiting for!?!? This book is a great place to start...

5.0 out of 5 stars My soul to keep rise of the fallen Great Book! June 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story is set in modern day Pennsylvania but the town that Connor lives in is strange, strange, strange. This story will make you laugh (a lot!), cry, will leave you begging for more and never wanting to story to end! This is a great read and I would recommend it to any sci fi or paranormal fiction reader.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fun June 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well I have been getting into teen lit lately (I am way beyond teen years). This was fun as hell. I had a great time reading this, the author is awesome at helping you get into the main characters head and feeling what he is feeling.

I love this even though its partly a love story (ick). I am hoping that he will continue this as a series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Unique Spin on Angel/Demon Mythology August 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
"My Soul to Keep" by Sean Hayden is book one of the Rise of the Fallen series and it is a very unique take on Angel mythology. In fact, I think I can say with complete confidence you've never read anything like it! This story is about a teenage boy named Connor Sullivan and how one night he sold his soul for one wish, however idiot that he is, he thinks it's a joke. Well, at least he does until a very beautiful woman riding a motorcycle shows up to grant said wish. To outsmart her, he wishes to become like her. So Connor, average, idiotic, stupid high school sophomore that he is, becomes a Fallen. What does this mean? Well it means that he is no longer human, he is immortal, and he is - for lack of a better word - a demon.

So it's been a let me rephrase's been a really long time since I read a book from a male perspective and I have to say that not only was it refreshing but absolutely hilarious! I thought going into this book that it probably wouldn't be very funny and it would be more on the serious side. But I forgot to take note that the main character is a teenage boy who is a sophomore in high school no less. So with that in mind, the humor is all guy humor, very dry and very funny, like laugh out loud and wake my husband up in the middle of the night funny! Don't believe me? The below quote is during one of the more serious parts of the book. Connor is trying to learn how to control his image, more on that later, but his teacher tells him to focus on being human. Here's what he comes up with...

"It's not about pretzels, it's about being human. Finding what you really like, doing it, and remembering what it is you love. I just happen to love soft pretzels."

Me too, Connor, me too!

You've seen the title before, right? It's not the same book. I have to admit, the title is slightly used but it actually goes along with the story extremely well and I can't imagine another title that would fit as appropriately. For a quick, action urban fantasy/paranormal romance story, My Soul to Keep is fun, unique and has a surprisingly exciting ending. I can't wait for the next one ;)

Connor is a 15 year old self-described loner. His parents both work so his typical day consists of coming home from school, faking through his homework and then jumping on his PS3 all before his pain-in-the-ass sister comes home from cheer leading and disrupts his quiet "me time". But on one such day, Connor gets a "wacky" idea to perform a ritual involving a black candle, a contract written in his blood and an oath spoken out loud to no one in particular. He's just promised his soul for a wish and he has no clue where the idea to do this came from. Turns out, it didn't just pop into his head all on its own.

I was originally interested in reading and reviewing this story because I wanted to read a romantic hero's POV actually written by a guy. I wanted to see if there was difference between a female author and a male author. Honestly, I really couldn't tell a difference but it definitely lend credibility to Connor's POV.

At first, the story kind of lost me with its "teenager-isms" (example: fart fan - the fan in the bathroom) but after the first chapter the story picked up and took off very quickly. I've noticed that first books in UF series tend to be heavy in world building. My Soul to Keep stayed balanced and evenly paced with the added humor, crazy action and some light romance.

As for the characters, I really fell for Connor.
