What you see is certainly what you get!,
This review is from: Soul (Audio CD)
And what do you see? Five hardened veterans of country/rock music, musicians and singers worthy of their own halls of fame. The Kentucky Headhunters are some of the best of the best, the elite in modern outlaw music. And no, I'm not playing them up. This album is aptly titled. It has a soul of its own. Take the terrific blues number "Have You Ever Loved a Woman," with beautiful guitar and piano solos. Or "Lookin' For Mr. Perfect," a tribute to man's imperfections. The witty, divorce-inspied "Last Night I Met Carl Perkins" is another great number. "Lonely Nights" is emotionally charged and perfect. The sensual feel of "You Got It" (about an interracial relationship) is a highlite, delving into territory not often explored in country music. Even "Everyday People" leans away from the blandness of most of it's ilk. "Soul" is a CD that takes on a life of its own. The Kentucky Headhunters have a record of making great music; they do not stop here. Truly, this CD lives in your heart, your mind...and yes, your soul.

Kentucky Musicians Branch Out,
By Brett Lemke (www.maximumink.com) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soul (Audio CD)
Listening to the Headhunters is like taking a road trip through the American south in a beat down dual-purpose farm truck. "Soul" is a stop in a different city with each track, experiencing the different cultural and musical perspectives each with a unique local slant. Around in one incarnation or another since 1968, the Grammy-winning headhunters have put together an album consisting of soulful southern vocals, a forcefully funky rhythm section and a Hammond B-3 that accompanies tunes like "Last Night I Met Carl Perkins" and "I Still Wanna be Your Man." Impressively structured, the bass track is layered perfectly underneath a fusion of raw twang and smooth slide blues. The Headhunters deliver a fusion of southern-influenced Country & Rock N' Roll, livening things up with different approaches to each individual track.

Real Music from a real band,
By A Customer
This review is from: Soul (Audio CD)
I have been enjoying this band's music since before they were a band! "Soul" takes them to a new level -- they expand on their own unique sound, with twinges of Delbert McClinton, Van Morrison and Freddie King. Don't expect "main stream" Country stations to play many of these cuts, but for anyone who has music in their soul, this is an excellent addition to one's personal playlist. Seeing these numbers performed live will be the icing on the cake. Buy it! JDWL
