African soul,
By Amaranth "music fan" (Northern California) - See all my reviews

Manu Dibango's "Soul Makossa" is a timeless Afropop masterpiece. It was Dibango's only worldwide hit, but it's been a source of inspiration ever since, from Michael Jackson's "Wanna be startin' somethin'" to the chorus serving as the bridge in Rihanna's "Don't stop the music."
"Soul Makossa" has a mysteriously timeless quality. It sounds like a fusion of hip-hop,jazz,African rhythms... and it's from nearly 4 decades ago. "Soul Makossa" moves the body and thrills the soul!

Not the Original,
By Richie C. "RCC7" (Stanley, North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews

Sorry but THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL SONG that was played on the radio back in the 70's. Maybe Mr. Manu Dibango felt the need to redo this song, but it's nothing like the original "funky beat" we all came to enjoy.
