5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE, LIFE, AND DRAMA STEAMS OFF THE PAGES
Ms. Morrison, I want to commend you on doing a well job writing such a good, strong story about the challenges in love relationships - specificially soul mates. I love your usuage of poetry in between the certain scenes (at the church) and at the end. Also, liked the usuage of Diamond's letter to Wellington at or near the end of the book. I really liked the fact...

I was put off by not only the borderline pornography of the book, but also by the somewhat fragmented plot. I am a fan of erotica that is tastefully done (i.e. Zane, of Erotica Noir)...this wasn't it. The characters seemed to be overdone, especially Wellington (I kept thinking of Beef Wellington). The plot was, most of the time, predictable. Some of the minor characters shone through, like Jada's mother and her boyfriend, as they were very down-to-earth. On a positive note...Mary's poetry in the book was BEAUTIFUL. But overall, I was disappointed.

I love your usuage of poetry in between the certain scenes (at the church) and at the end. Also, liked the usuage of Diamond's letter to Wellington at or near the end of the book. I really liked the fact that you tied up all the loose ends of the plots - Wellington's parentage, Melanie and Cynthia's deceit, and the resolution of Diamond and Wellington. I also liked the strong imagery. This book only took me 8 hours to complete. I almost never read a book that quick, but this was a compelling and interesting read. I am glad you used the erotic images as a platform from which to tell us the real deal between the soul mates (Diamond, Wellington, and Melanie). I loved this book, and look forward to your chat with the Prolific Writers Network and Good Book club Members next week. You definitely have a new fan.

1.0 out of 5 stars If You Like Porn...., December 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Soul Mates Dissipate (Hardcover)
then this is the book for you. This was selected by my bookclub and all of 12 of us HATED IT! The characters are phony, the plot really stupid and it had too much explicit sexual situations that made us all barf! Then at the end does the author try to be a Iylana Vanzant and tell us how to find your "Soulmate." If you are into porn on the page, look no further, this is your book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's Be Honest Here People!, July 26, 2000
By
This review is from: Soul Mates Dissipate (Paperback)
I've read some reviews of Soul Mates which classify "Soul Mates" as porn or soft porn. I have a question? Who in their right mind would deny themselves unbridled 'Passion!' Like when you share a kiss that makes your heart skip beats. Or being so deep in love with someone that it hurts 'so good' just thinking about them. Have you ever experienced ecstasy so thrilling that you wanted to call your mother! Love, Passion, and Ecstasy are beautiful emotions that ALL of us want to feel in our lives. Ms. Morrison has simply composed a story where the 'Extreme' cases of passion and love are hi-lighted. After all, if it was an average love-making session, we'd be bored to death; and her book probably wouldn't sell very well. I commend Ms. Morrison on her story telling ability, her description of places and events, and her courage to take us into "The Room" where every great emotion surrounding love is experienced!

2.0 out of 5 stars They Were Not Soul Mates, November 1, 2001

When I think of Soul Mates I think of people who are destined to be together, who know from that first look, who grow together, and share, bring out the best in each other. What I don't think of, are two lust-filled people, who include someone else in their intimacy that should only be meant for them, lying, cheating and hipocrisy. With that said, if you plan to read this story based on the title, you will be sadly misdirected. This book's main objective seems to be to heighten your libido and nothing else.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll Definately Want To Add This To Your Book Collection!, August 30, 2000

This book raises issues and presents situations that encourages both females and males to think before they act. Morrison 's poetic background adds a spice to her eloquent style of writing. I completed this page-turner in two days.

I really enjoyed the way bits and pieces of information was placed in the story that had me creating all types of endings. Initially, I thought that the story was going to reveal that Wellington Jones was going to be the husband that had sent Jazzmyne Jones through the changes that she went through. The mentioning of the picture of his birth-mom kept me guessing also.

Mostly all characters faced issues that had them at both ends of life...Good and bad. Even Cynthia "Mrs. Perfect" Wellington had skeletons and bones flying out of her closet.

The cool and sexy Wellington allowed himself to fall into the trap set by his so-called God Sister Melanie and his so-called Mother. Ladies...Did the author describe this man's looks, actions, and his "! " as eye candy or what?

Jada had been in and out of relationships prior. However, this time she was sure that Wellington was her soulmate. Candice, her friend, saw through Melanie and kept throwing her those "Girl, Don't Trust That GodSister/Brother Relationship" messeges. Jada was convinced that her and Wellington's relationship was so strong that it couldn't be touched.

His mother and Melanie both... Well you'll find out once you get up and GO OUT AND GET THIS WORTHY BOOK!

By the way "! " refers to his house and car (smile).

Mary B. Morrison - What's up! It was a pleasure to meet you at the Blacks In Government(BIG) Conference in DC. Please e-mail when you finish writing "Family Friends Lovers & Others" in December. You can (pre)count on my purchase. Keep up the outstanding work.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where were the SOUL MATES?, September 26, 2001
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soul Mates Dissipate (Hardcover)
Jada Diamond Tanner has everything going for her. Her career as a fashion
photographer is exploding, she's beautiful and intelligent, and she could
have her pick of any man in California. The problem is she has yet to find
that one man...her soul mate. Enter Wellington Jones, an extremely handsome
and successful man who manages to slither his way into Jada's heart the first
night that they meet.

Jada and Wellington's relationship blooms rapidly and the two find their love

connecting on all levels. When they announce to their families their decision
to marry, Jada finds his mother less than enthused, and soon after, Jada and
Wellington's relationship is put to the test as sex, lies, deceit, and conception
play a climactic role in their love.

I have to say I had high expectations for this book. I LOVED the title, it was a
national bestseller and the word-of-mouth for the novel had me anxious to read it. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. I found myself not liking the majority
of the characters, including the two main characters (though I would have LOVED a
novel on Jada's mom and her "friend"). I was under the impression that the reader
was to believe that Jada and Wellington truly loved one another, that they were
indeed soul mates; however, the only thing I found between the two was sex (which
this book has a LOT of), and as a result, I couldn't empathize or sympathize or
care much about the pair.

I wished for like 50-100 more pages, because the story read too fast and made the
situations in the book too unbelievable for me. But I will say this, I read the
book in practically one sitting. There's something CATCHING about the novel that
will make you continue reading it to the very end.

I would be interested in reading future works by Morrison to see how her writing
style evolves through other projects, but as for SOUL MATES DISSIPATE, I have to
rate it a 2.5 on the RAW Scale.

5.0 out of 5 stars A PAGE-TURNER! SOMETHING YOU WON'T PUT DOWN!, June 1, 2001
This review is from: Soul Mates Dissipate (Hardcover)
I polished off the novel in one sitting. Her book wouldn't allow me to do much else. I had to finish it--I wanted to know what happened next! It's an easy read and very entertaining book. The steamy scenes that will make your head spin, are not the heart of the story, but it adds the spice. Being too comfortable in a relationship and not seeing the signs of reality is what the book is really about. Mary has a spectacular way of putting words to paper, and I am looking forward to the sequel. If you are a reader who is tired of "fluffy" and "glossed over" love scenes--then get ready. Mary takes you to the graduate school of sensuality. Class is in! Mary's unique style of sensual writing should have people taking notes and trying it out for themselves.

Hats off to Mary Morrison for a job well done! Her next novel can't come soon enough. Don't "borrow" a copy, because you will not want to give it back. Buy your own!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too hot to read in public . . . . . whew . . . ., September 15, 2000

RadiantBride (McLean, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Soul Mates Dissipate (Paperback)
This book puts the H in HOT!!!! I enjoyed this book but I was a little embarrassed to read it in public because of the content of the book. This is a definately Rated - NC17 book don't let your teenagers read it. This is a story of love and lost. It is a story about what a woman will due for love or what she think is love. Diamond has this great man Wellington, he rich, sweet, and classy. Virtually everything that a woman would want in a man. But then a friend of the family moves into his house, a female friend if you know what I am talking about. Then the games begin. Are Wellington and Diamond soulmates? Does Melanie have her own agenda by moving in with her godbrother? This book is an definately easy read. The only thing in the book that really disturbed was that everything in the book had to be top of the line, everyone was rich, drove nice cars, and lots of loot. It didn't seem realistic, like the average working people. That is my reasoning for the three stars, I think that the author went a little over the top with all the extravagent descriptions.
