3.0 out of 5 stars Lively and enlightening discussion on many of the roads to healing, August 11, 2008
Norman Shealy and Dawson Church complement each other nicely in this lively and enlightening discussion on many of the roads to healing. Some chapters are authored by each, others appear (by implication of no identifying author) to have been written jointly.
The premise of soul medicine is this: We allow the perfect consciousness of health contained in the soul to express freely in the patient's energy system. Through this intention, healing is triggered in heart, mind and body. (p. 31)
Shealy contributes his wealth of knowledge about medical aspects of Soul Medicine, including bioelectrical and nutritional therapies. What is most impressive about Shealy's work, teaching and writing is that he walks his own talk. He checks out the therapies he recommends on himself, to the extent possible. What is even more impressive is that Shealy is looking younger each year, following the regimen he lays out in this and in his other books.
Church contributes his personal and researched understanding of the spiritual side of the healing spectrum, including several startling physical healings effected personally through spiritual healing.
Both authors contribute to understanding the energetic paths to healing and suggest helpful ways in which we can access and apply soul medicine to heal our physical and psychological problems.
This is an easy read, a helpful introduction to unconventional approaches to healing for anyone who would like to explore beyond the bounds of conventional medicine. For those wishing to explore further, generous references open doorways to further study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Putting the Soul Back in Medicine, July 16, 2006

Long ago science and medicine inadvertedly divorced themselves from spirituality in order to make room for discoveries that medieval religion would not allow. Now Shealy and Dawson have given us a beautiful gift in Soul Medicine. This book contains a lot of exciting information and returns the soul to its rightful place in medicine and the whole of science.

4.0 out of 5 stars Missing Something; However a Good Read, July 3, 2007
I just finished reading Soul Medicine: Awakening Your Inner Blueprint for Abundant Health and Energy by Norman Sheali,
MD, Ph.D. and Dawson Church, Ph.D..

The book is broken down into five sections, the first two dealing with the history of health, medicine, healing and healers and the last three explains Quantum Healing, Energy, Electricity and Therapy, and Soul Medicine of the Future.

The authors explain, "The premise of soul medicine is this: We allow the perfect consciousness of health contained in the soul to express freely in the patient's energy system. Through this intention, healing is triggered in heart, mind, and body."

They go on to explain "The Three Pillars of Soul Medicine":
1)'The concept of the human being as an energy system; every atom in the body vibrates at a certain energy level and we are electromagnetic entities.' (31), 2)'Consciousness is the second pillar as our energy systems are affected by consciousness.' (32), 3)'Intention - provides the power, the motive force, to set in motion the complex chain of events that result in healing.' (35)

In chapter nine the authors list 14 soul healing practices:
meridian-based therapies, color and light, homeopathy, sound, touch and healing, aromatherapy, biofeedback, manipulation, meditation, electromagnetic stimulation, traditional medical practices, prayer and faith healing, conscious lifestyle, and subconscious reprogramming. MMMM - no mention of environmental healing and/or Feng Shui healing - although it could be argued that color/light, sound, and aromatherapy could be a part of environmental healing that isn't what I'm talking about.

Some people are in buildings, whether at work, home, or store's, a big percentage of their life and most of those buildings are harming your health and your soul! Our buildings are sick!

I do want to give the authors credit where on page 203 they do start discussing the influence of electromagnetic fields on people and the world. And somewhat about water; however I guess I would like to see more about pollutants in our buildings that effect us as well; perhaps in their second edition they'll consider adding more with regards to this topic as I feel it would make a nice addition to an already good and informative read.

5.0 out of 5 stars treating more than the symptoms, January 2, 2007
Chinese and East Indian medical practitioners have long known that there are underlying issues and cures available for dis-ease, and western medicine simply does not successfully address these issues. But the holistic approach is on the rise, and Soul Medicine brings to the forefront of our attention the critical issues of consciousness and intention. We can treat symptoms all day long, but until we start looking at how we think and what we believe about our bodies and illness, about health and how our bodies were designed to function perfectly we are not going to excape the patterns of fear and group belief that keep us stuck and sick. Keep a close eye on Church and Shealy. I think we will be seeing more of Soul Medicine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ah ha... so good to see more alternative medical works on the power of the mind!, March 25, 2010
This review is from: Soul Medicine: Awakening Your Inner Blueprint for Abundant Health and Energy (Paperback)
Soul medicine as primary care? Yes. You will have to read how this can happen.
Energy healing starts with opening your mind.
Energy follows thoughts and intentions are everything.
Shealy, a neurosurgeon and Dawson, a clinical researcher, explains how future medicine can be more about the mind and spirit and less about medications!
This book is well researched, well written and encapsulates the history of energy healing, its mechanisms, and a "how to" self-help tool for your own personal growth. There is a fabulous chapter on how acupuncture works in electromagnetic terms.
"Magic precedes science." I was fascinated to read about outstanding healers of our time in conjunction with medical research proving the effectiveness of energy trials.
The book has many clinical and case studies that will educate you, and keep you turning pages for more information. It's packed with interesting and empowering information to help you learn more.
I thought I knew a lot about the mind, body, spirit, but was happy to discover new variations on the theme.
This book is useful to the layperson, the medical community and anyone discouraged and dissatisfies with their western medicine protocols.
Life can be so much more and this book discusses how and why.
Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars down-to-earth tips, April 11, 2007
This review is from: Soul Medicine: Awakening Your Inner Blueprint for Abundant Health and Energy (Paperback)
Reviewed by Olivera Baumgartner-Jackson for Reader Views (9/08)

Are you tired of feeling bad? Tired of taking medications with more side effects than healing properties? Tired of nobody in the medical field really looking at you as a whole and treating you as such? Tired of being told that it is all in your head and getting no relief for what ails you?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, chances are that reading "Soul Medicine" will open a new world to you. While the authors by no means reject traditional medicine, and actually keep warning the reader not to drop whatever medication and/or treatments one is supposed to be receiving without consulting with their physician first, they offer a wealth of information on alternatives to traditional medicine.

Their view of medicine as a sacred healing process is fascinating, from the historical overview of it to the actual applications in today's world. Based on actual facts, extensive research and vast personal experiences, this is a monumental work. A glimpse through the References section reveals the astonishing amount of exploration the authors had to do to come up with this fascinating book. If it is stories of human interest you are after, you won't be disappointed. If you want to hear about the miraculous healings, you will be astounded. If the facts and scientific approach amazes you, don't fret - there is plenty there for you as well. If you always felt slightly doubtful about wisdom of certain procedures, drugs and like, you will suddenly discover yourself in very good company.

From descriptions of actual procedures performed by diverse healers to very down-to-earth tips on how to pick a practitioner best suited to your needs and your personality, this is a wonderfully enlightening book. Although certain sections might be slightly too technical for some of the readers, the writing style never becomes convoluted and forbidding. Always direct, continuously practical and upbeat and positive at all times, "Soul Medicine" is a book for anybody getting older; which I guess would include all of us... If the only thing you get out of it is how to age more gracefully, it is still worth the time it took to read it; if it solves some more immediate problem for you, that much better. And if it just shifts your thought processes slightly, thus enabling you to look for solutions in less obvious places, this book will still bring you a world of good. I found "Soul Medicine" one of the most fascinating books I've read in a long time, and I definitely plan to look into several things mentioned in it.

Book received free of charge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be careful of Taurine & caffeine, September 11, 2009
This review is from: Soul Medicine: Awakening Your Inner Blueprint for Abundant Health and Energy (Paperback)
I haven't finished the book and generally find it very enlightening.

A statement that Taurine is deficient in 86% of people suffering from depression led me to stock up on it, since this has been a life-long problem. Since you need to take it on an empty stomach, I took it with my morning coffee. WRONG! My blood pressure went through the roof. Check the internet re: the energy drinks that contain Taurine & caffeine. That says it all. If you're going to take Taurine, take it apart from caffeine!
