5.0 out of 5 stars THE GREATEST GOSPEL RELEASED IN THE LAST 50 YEARS, October 25, 2003
By
This review is from: Soul Mission (Audio CD)
I am a lover of music...I am constantly searching for that group, that artist who tries to expand the borders of music, this is one of those cds. I love the soul and emotion of early gospel but have found todays genre to be completely watered down. There's no passion left. Turth be told I found this cd in the dollar section at a used cd store, that's where all the passion is these days. This music is soul, its gospel, its passionate, and for that reason it will never find its way to radio Christian or secular! Think if the Blues Brothers did a gospel album, think if the heyday of Motown did worship at your church. You can swim in the deep soulful textures of the b-3 organ, and get immersed in the Motown gospel choir. This music is deep and progressive in nature. This is by far the best gospel I have ever heard since Mahalia. If your looking for soulful, passionate, progressive, deep, heartfelt music, it's right here. If your not, turn on your radio. Think progressively.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a "Rodney Dangerfield" Release!, January 20, 2010

This review is from: Soul Mission (Audio CD)
IT GOT NO RESPECT! (Radio Airplay) I came across it during the late-90s and saw the talent line up and had to get it! The classic soulful style and production was awesome. But the ministry of the Gospel message (not just the genre) is beautiful! A previous review mentioned the passion that was missing from its contemporaries at the time - and still is today! It's in the bargain basement and worth much more - so GET IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SOUL ALBUM YOU NEVER HEARD, October 7, 2007
This review is from: Soul Mission (Audio CD)
there's so much i want to say. first , this album is amazing, will have you singing and laughing and weeping all at the same time. really. its a crime its never heard, there are so many awesome artists who are on it. my favorite is micheal mcdonald ,thats right, the lead singer for the dooby brothers and an awsome piano player contributes to several songs.

really for the price its a shame you don't have a copy in your music library.

While not perfect, on the whole this album is absolutely amazing - it's not an overstatement to say this album is soul-stirring and life-affirming. This gets 5 stars automatically just for the TWO, count 'em, TWO roof-raising, lung-busting vocal tracks by MS. TATA VEGA - yes, the voice behind Sug in "Color Purple" and several criminally ignored and OOP LPs for Tamla/Motown, this is TATA at her best - TABLE IN THE WILDERNESS and especially HE IS AMAZING are, simply put, jaw-dropping vocal performances. If you don't rise out of your chair and raise a fist to the sky in divine celebration, check your pulse, you're already DOA. The other soul-stirring tracks are fine, with contributions from MAVIS STAPLES and VICTOR COOK (the voice behind gospel/house act LEVITICUS, known for their underground club track "LIFE STORY"!), but SOUL MISSION is clearly TATA's own show - I was LUCKY to have witnessed a LIVE performance recreation of SOUL MISSION when it was first released back in the 90s, and believe you me, it was a night that changed my life. WOW!

5.0 out of 5 stars Music To Move You, October 16, 2001

I was just passing through and came across this CD. I got chills just thinking about listening to it. What a great album and what a great group of artists and original songs. I happened to ride on an airplane a while back and sat next to one of the composers.
What a great and talented pair of writers and what MAGIC they have made with the artists they selected to lay down the tracks with. If you are into spiritual, gospel, r&b or christian music, then this cd is a must-own. Enjoy. Peace.
