Review

"Soul Psychology is a helpful guide to those on a spiritual path of ascension. . . . Provides wonderful tools that are easy to apply!"
--SHAKTI GAWAIN
Author of Creative Visualizations and Living in the Light

"MAGNIFICENT . . . A comprehensive, practical approach for experiencing soul transformation."
--DR. NORMA MILANOVICH
Author of The Light Shall Set You Free

From the Inside Flap

The words of Sai Baba, "God equals man minus ego," are echoed by Dr. Joshua David Stone in his seminal work, Soul Psychology. A veteran transpersonal psychologist and family counselor, Dr. Stone teaches us how our entire understanding of ourselves and others is completely changed when we integrate our soul into the way we live our lives. Based on eighteen years of Dr. Stone's practice, this book is not a psychological approach to spirituality. It is rather a spiritual approach to the psychology of everyday living.

At the heart of Soul Psychology is emotional healing through the dismantling of the "negative ego," a psychological cancer that prevents us from acting in accordance with our soul's true nature and purpose. This negative energy drives us to find our security outside of ourselves; whereas the only true security is one that is grounded in having a right relationship with self and a right relationship with the Divine. To guide us onto this path of spiritual ascension, Soul Psychology offers a stimulating new viewpoint that expands the boundaries of traditional spiritual practice, providing a wealth of accessible and powerful meditations and exercises, including

- The six-step process for healing and spiritualizing emotions
- The spiritual science of the seven rays and the twenty-two chakras
- Methods for clearing negative psychic energies that inhibit soul growth
- The one hundred most common pitfalls and traps on the spiritual path

I hate to dispute the opinion of another, but I wonder if our friend below has actually read any of this book other than the blurb? Judging by his comments, I have to say I very much doubt it. 'Soul Psychology' is an extraordinary book that takes a look at psychology within the context of the mind and soul as opposed to just the mind and personality. The result is an inspiring, life-enhancing book, packed with various tools and techniques that are easy to use and extremely effective in dealing with negative emotions and mindsets and reprogramming the subconscious mind (I can vouch for their effectiveness!). Words cannot describe how empowering and invaluable this book has been. Simply put, it's a classic, visionary and pioneering work - I highly recommend it!

Having fully read and explored this book, the reader understands that the author is speaking of the 'negative ego' which needs to be cleared so that perceptual filters are no longer distorting one's perception of reality. The author does not negate the fact that the part of ego necessary for daily activity is important. This is the same part of ego that Sai Baba comments on by saying: 'God equals man minus ego'. Please read this book before you make a review on it!

I never thought I would gain so much insight, understanding and practical guidance from a single book. Dr. Stone has put together a modern compilation of techniques and psychospiritual systems in an easy to understand format. I definitely recommend this book!

This is simply a wonderful book for someone who is interested in tying together a lot of ideas and issues relating to living a spiritual life. Many of the ideas and concepts elaborated in this book enabled me to make sense of many of the concepts that I had read about in previous years. Some of it honestly was beyond what I have studied. However, there was a time when many of the things that I do now consider to be commonplace in my life were quite unusual and not at all easy for me to understand. I suppose that it was the right time for me to read this book. It was recommended reading from a metaphysical class that I had been attending. I began the book with some hope and definitely a healthy sense of curiousity. The author is a good writer and the entire book reads easily, in most cases as if the author is talking to you in person. Much of the book just seemed to speak to me. Many times I found myself thinking 'so this is what that was all about'. I particularly thought that the information regarding sins and mistakes was important. It puts a positive and constructive perspective on how we stumble in life and what separates those who trully are searching and the many who seem never to look beyond the surface of things. It is a great adjunct for anyone studying the perennial philosophy. I trully hope that in reading this you are motivated to at least pick up the book, hold it in your hand, and look through it. The review would be worth writing if for no other reason than that.

Not only is this book uplifting and full of fresh thoughts to replace the negative ones in our lives, but also it contains so many 'How To' ideas, including pages of directed affirmations and a multi-page 21-day program to turn your thinking around and aim it in a more spiritual direction. This is one of most refreshing books I've found addressing spirituality in a long time. I recommend it heartily. I'm recommending it to our book group! Thank you Dr. Stone.

Soul Psychology is packed with esoteric wisdom such as the Chakra system, as well as other new thought philosophies. It provides charts for better visual understanding. It also provides both concrete and abstract exercises for you to tune in. It's a book one can read from cover to cover or skip around to find what is relevant for you in that moment.

I had high hopes for this because of the great title but now agree with the previous review: This presents a rather outmoded view of the ego as the enemy; rather than as a "mechanism"whereby consciousness is able to focus on the external senses and external reality (i.e the world).

From the quote on the first page, you get views from Guru Sai Baba, whose thoughts are mirrored again and again. He quotes Alice Bailey, which is a relief, but mostly it's just a rehash of what other authors have written and frankly, the ones I read that he draws on did it in a more inspiring and original way.

Very disappointing. I can't decide if I should destroy it or donate - don't want to give people the idea that this is a good spiritual path because after years of serious study, I disagree with most of what is in this book.
