First a word of praise for Michael Conrader who recorded and mixed this album - it has one of the best keyboard sounds that I've heard in a long time, and absolutely defines the kind of sound that Alex Bugnon was clearly aiming for. The best tracks on this album are excellent. I particularly like "Night Groove" ( where he acknowleges a debt to Rodney Franklin) a dark and brooding piece; "Strollin'" which captures a mood, and "Changes" which has an authentic gospel-blues feel. The version of "In a sentimental mood" is a straight ahead piano piece, and "Can't get you out of my mind" has some lovely organ work (courtesy of David Delhomme) and underpinning vocals from Arthur Rogiers.What doesn't work for me on the album are the drum sounds from Poogie Bell, which on some tracks sound a bit leaden - particularly on "Walking In Rhythm" where the excellent keyboard work seems to be held back by the live drum sound.Perhaps what the album needed most was a little more editing- but it contains enough innovation to be able to report that Alex Bugnon is still pushing the business forward.

Alex Bugnon's albun "Soul Purpose" has the makings of a contemporary jazz classic; not because any one of the songs is extarordinary, but because all the songs are worth listening. Bugnon's keyboard and writing skills have increased consistently with each release and "Soul Purpuse" is no exception. It's soulful and jazzy, and even has a gospel edge ("Changes").

The title track has a definate Memphis soul influence, with noticeably fuller instrumentation than the other tracks. The remake of Bugnon's own "Around 12:15 AM" (from his first album "Love Season"), which starts the album, is elegant and fresher than the original. The only disappointment is "EWF," a trbute to R&B group Earth Wind & Fire that exudes little of their influence. But even that song is worthy of a listen.

This is truly one of Mr. Bugnon's best! It reminds me of some of his earlier releases. Thanks Alex for the smooth (with a hint of funk) grooves.

The CD arrived very fast and in excellent shape/condition. Every track is a keeper and plays just like a new disk. At 2.98 shipping, this is an excellent Music Lovers Service. This Seller met every condition and expectation beautifully and made the whole transaction smooth and painless. This is my fourth Alex Bugnon CD and it does not disappoint. I would buy this artist again and would not hesitate to buy from this Seller again. A+++++. Thank you very much.

Hey, it's Jazzman, coming to review Alex's new cd. I just bought it Tuesday afternoon. This cd is excellent. It's got a nice rhythmic mixture of songs on it. The first song, "Around 12:15 AM", is tight and Love Song #2 is very nice, mellow!! All you jazz listeners, buy Alex's new cd. You will definitely enjoy it.
