3.0 out of 5 stars A bit formulatic . . . (Is that spelled right?), June 12, 2007
This review is from: Soul Rescue Volume 1 (Paperback)
Well, I was browsing the shelves one day and I came across this book. Being a huge fantasy fan I gave it a shot.

The plot is a bit formulatic. The main character is a rogue angel who is kicked out of heaven until he can save 10,000 souls. A fact that runs contrary to his combative nature. He is given a watchdog as a sidekick. (And thus the two main characters are born see front cover) Since this is only (?) a two volumn series I can't see how the author wraps it up unless it is an incomplete series. Basically this is a typical he can save anyone type of plot line.

As for the art it is clean and nice but nothing notable. Angels are pictured as futuristic army men in white complete with helmuts. God is also pictured in a similar mannor - a fact that I disliked. At least in Angel Sanctuary Kaori was smart enough not to actually draw God which made the work feel more real. Devils look like street punks with black wings and one devil look like he hasn't slept in a year with such large black lines under his eyes. Perhaps the only really entertaining thing here is that the main character, an angel, is heavily tattooed. It's just too funny.

All this said, the book was still entertaining and fun as a quick read. It is not a great must have work, but for something a little silly and ligth hearted it is perfect.

4.0 out of 5 stars WHY ONLY 2 BOOKS :C, May 18, 2011
This review is from: Soul Rescue Volume 1 (Paperback)
I enjoyed this book, but it went from AH THIS IS SO COOl, to eh not bad. The series was too short. Only 2 volumes. I wonder if it just wasn't making it so they ended it. It had a lot of potential, and was a pretty interesting plot, and I would have definitely kept up with this series but it just stopped abruptly. The man character that was supposed to be some BA guy, soon starts to seem like this kitten loving, flower picking guy. I think his progression into a not wild guy was just too quick, but with only 2 volumes I can't blame it. I'm overall just bummed with how it ended without really getting anywhere. There was just sooo much potential for this series which was crushed by it's quick ending. Boo.

I'd still definitely recommend it, but if it will keep you up at night not having a real ending, you may want to pass on this series. She is also the author of Blank Slate which is very good (also 2 books but actually covers stuff and has an ending!).
