Gives clear thoughts of how and why soul retrieval works.,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Soul Retrieval Journey (Audio Cassette)
Sandra tells of the process of why we lose parts of ourselves and why it is important for us to reclaim those parts. She relates how shamanic communities regularly have soul retrieval ceremonies within three days of any stress that may separate a soul piece. She tells how she got into this work and gives examples of ceremonies she has done.

Sensitive and Instructive,

I find Sandra Ingerman's approach to this sensitive subject, straightforward. Although I do this work within my practice, I am always looking for ways to present information to people who need more information before we begin. Thank you for your work/studies/dedication to your path, and thank you also for sharing it so openly. Obviously this author is truely intrested in healing the planet and all on it. It was a joy to recieve!

Great introduction to Soul Retrieval,
By
This review is from: The Soul Retrieval Journey (Audio CD)
Sandra provides an excellent introduction to Soul Retrieval and other core Shamanic principals. This is an excellent resource for anyone studying Shamanism or interested in restoring personal power into their life. Is also a nice complement to The Spirits are Always with Me: True Stories and Guidance from a Modern Shaman by Jane Shutt, which provide more depth on this important topic (and of course to other books and CDs by Sandra Ingerman).

These cassettes provide an introduction to shamanic healing. Many of the rituals used by shamans are explained. Many of these rituals are still used as tools for healing. One learns how a part of the soul can be lost and later
retrieved through a soul retrieval journey. We experience the unique knowledge of the shaman and his process to bring the soul into new wholeness. This is a very fascinating subject for me. I would like to have a soul retrieval on myself. I am able to play these cassettes in my car which is what I still like about being able to buy cassettes.

NO NO and NO, & totally irritating too.,
This review is from: The Soul Retrieval Journey (Audio CD)
I downloaded the MP3 for this recording. I am not sure what the heck this recording was. Ingerman lacked focus and the product lacked thoughtfulness. Every section starts off with Sandra Ingerman rattling and singing and it is the same recording over and over. The problem with it is that it sounds like they took an old recording and tacked it on to each section. I have heard this same ratting and singing on her other recordings too. Please, can't we just talk about the subject at hand. I just don't get starting off every section with the same rattling/singing. I suppose it is to give the recording a shamanistic air. It appears Ingerman has been working on her speaking/voice. At least it sounded better than the CD included with her book Shamanic Journeying: A Beginner's Guide, but her voice is kind of flat and this recording information wise is a disappointment. I am familiar with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies Ingerman was associated with. This is far cry from their more focused products on shamanic practices.
I expected to hear about the shamanic healing journey of soul retrieval, but this was more like a 3 hour stream of consciousness self-help recording. Here's an example of all the thoughts she crams into the beginning of her recording: Ingerman tells the listener they may find what she has to say hard to believe. She has the listener go through an exercise get a "feeling" or "signal" for a lie. Ingerman states the signals she gets when she hears a lie or truth is she sees a green light in her solar plexus of her body and a red flag in the solar plexus of her body when she hears a lie. Then she tells the listener when they are listening to the recording if their rational mind steps in trying to block the "truth" of what she is saying to use their body "signals" to check if it is truthful and use it to basically put aside their rational mind's interference. Ingerman then says the shamanic journey can help us access non-ordinary reality. Then she states the Earth has a frequency of 7.8 to 12 cycles per second and drum has a beat of 7-14 cycles per second so we are aligning ourselves to the "heartbeat of the Earth" when we listen to the shamanic drumming to enter the shamanic journey. Then she talks about the spirits doing the work and the shaman not actually doing the work, but the spirits are actually doing the work so the shaman has to move his ego aside and be the hollow bone. Then pretty much in the next sentence she mentions the intentions and trust. Then she talks about how we are going to the meet the spirits and how we are all connected and we are part of a greater whole and we are connected to all life on the planet. The shamanic journey can help us take back our spiritual authority and it is time for us to come up with our own spiritual wisdom and we need to get ourselves and our world back into balance. Huh? Was there a cohesive subject in there about shamanic soul retrieval? Ingerman ends off with a meditation, not a shamanic journey, where she gives you what I would call positive affirmations like "take the leap to be inspired to find meaning". There is a blurb at the end for Sandra Ingerman's workshops. The recording doesn't work as in the self-help genre either. It's as if Ingerman tried to combine shamanism and psychological counseling and didn't do an adequate job at either. I am disappointed in Sounds True for putting out this unfocused product.

(Got the Audio Tapes) WHile Sandra speaks like a clinician, the information is incredibly valuable. She gives insights, personal and patient, that really help one to journey within and see ourselves in a new perspective. To know oneself is to heal oneself, and this work is a great way to do it.

Inside the experience of a Shamanic Healer,
This review is from: The Soul Retrieval Journey (Audio CD)
This DVD done in Sandra's own voice is very inspiring. She relates her own experiences as she journeys for her clients and herself. As one who journeys, Sandra's insights are extermely helpful in understanding my own experiences. She is a true healer and teacher. Anyone interested in the Shamanic process will benefit from this DVD.

Written half way through CD 1. I don't know how I can possibly listen to the rest of it.
This CD is deadly boring. The speaker is very obviously reading from notes. She speaks painfully slowly and has trouble keeping her accent straight. The language is clumsy. The recording perfectly captured every little lip and tongue noise - she couldn't stop to take a sip of water? The reader is spending so much time going over basic basic basics that I can't see how she can possibly do justice to the real topic of the CD set, Soul Retrieval. I won't even get into the author's apparent total misunderstanding of the relationship between the shamanic experience and naturally occurring brain chemicals such as bufotenin. Nor will I carp on her failure to give any references beyond dropping the names of her spirit animals and that of the anthropologist and shamanic drummer Michael Harner. (Try his drumming CDs. Shamanic Journey Solo and Double Drumming) Not to mention that since the author is a "counselor" not an anthropologist, she confuses shamanism with animism. I am very disappointed in the quality of recent SoundsTrue offerings. In trying to appeal to the masses, they've abandoned serious students. |
